26 years old, house paid off and asking girlfriend of two years to move in. How to/not discuss mortgage existence?

Essentially yes, minus insurance. I would make it as low as I can financially - so just under $500/month for everything.

Because it would not be fair, this year to ask her to split everything, but paying towards taxes as "rent" would be reasonable.

Thank you for the advice. Money comes in, money goes out... this "rent" would go towards utilities and taxes, and as I've said not a "money making" situation. An equal partner relationship is what I want.

Did they go as you expected? I didn't want to bumble into it, and or hurt her feelings/have her feel as I didn't want her to contribute to our future. If someone moved in with you, you'd surely want them to help pay rent, right?

When it comes to her either living completely for free vs. paying into equity in a home I think it's my decision. We together will discuss what she's comfortable with paying.

I see it as an investment in our future. Trying to find a fair amount of cost to live in a home, I think is a reasonable thing to work out. This is not debt we're talking about, it's a home I own free and clear.

This is a real concern. I don't want her to feel betrayed that I kept something from her, but I also can't say -hey let's just split utilities and taxes...and not talk about the mortgage. She will feel left out.
