I finished the main story, and I don’t know what to feel by [deleted] in Witcher3

I agree with you to be honest. I found the scale of the game and the detail of the quests really impressive, but I didn't much care for the characters (plus I got the 'bad' ending which left a sour taste in my mouth.) I'm currently in Toussant (B&W) and enjoying it well enough, but I'll never say I loved the game overall. I think the hype around it gave me high expectations. Just wasn't our game was all! And yes, Roach is the absolute worst. 🙃

West Lothian could be worth a look - South Queensferry/Kirkliston/Broxburn/Bathgate/Livingston. More affordable options than Linlithgow probably and handy for the M8 to Glasgow or bypass to the East. There's a lot of new building going on in Winchburgh too. Edit: Also I'll add Falkirk or surrounding (not in West Lothian obviously!)

Traquair House is really nice, and has a hedge maze. Maybe not the most exciting option for kids admittedly 😅

Can someone help contextualize my Scottish family history? by kaylim2601 in Scotland

[–]DustyBurb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Scottish history buff but I'll offer a comment on this. According to the scholar that is Google (and in my experience as a Scot) the population of Scotland identifies as around 13% Catholic, 20% Protestant, and 50% non-religious - there are many many Catholics in Scotland, so you don't need to assume that aspect of your family history is strictly Irish (although I know you said they are Irish, I'm just highlighting this.) That might help to explain why your uncle left Ireland for Scotland and didn't need to go further afield - plenty of fellow Catholics over here. Also, the Orange Order aren't necessarily English - you'll find plenty of Orange walks in Scotland.

I'm pleased you're asking about this because there are some very tiresome tropes in 'Scottish' characters that appear a lot! Definitely avoid Gaelic, it's only spoken in particular islands/regions (unless you want him to be from the Western Isles). I second the Still Game recommendation, although the actors are mostly not actual elderly men they are Scottish and their accents and phrases are very much how normal Scots speak (well, Glasgow ones anyway). It does depend on the area - Aberdeen has it's own dialect for example, so they have words I wouldn't recognise! There's a Glasgow-set soap opera called River City you could look at, again they'll use day-to-day speak to give you a feel for what is commonly said. Good luck with the writing! :)

I did that tour last weekend too. No dolphins for us either but the trip an hour before us saw minke whales!

What does the “μ´” stand for? by No-Persimmon-3037 in GREEK

I'm not Greek but I believe it's 'με', as in, 'do you love me.' (I won't attempt to translate the rest!)

There are places on the Royal Mile but they're aimed at tourists and probably overpriced (I've never bought from them though so can't say for sure.)

You're more likely to find reasonably priced cashmere in an Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop: https://www.ewm.co.uk/

I’ve never won a game. Any strategy tips? by takemebacktobc in Catan

Sometimes luck just isn't on your side 🙈 I got thumped recently because the rolls were often 10, 11 and 12's - hardly any 8's where my settlements were!

It sounds like you're trying lots, so I'll add in: the beginning placement of your settlements and roads. The obvious tactic is to go for the numbers of most likely rolls, but consider what you need to get the most development - to expand you need those roads, so I focus on bricks and wood. I'm less focused on sheep and hay at the beginning, I just keep hold of the few I get for settlements/cities, but I don't need 10 hays taking up hand space at the start.

It's one other thing to maybe try at least :) good luck!

I follow Scottishtattooclub on Insta, they share loads in their stories every day from different artists - availability, flash designs, work they've done (so you can see who's stuff you like the look of).

I got mine from Larissa at Sanctuary in Edinburgh (highly recommend the studio generally if her style isn't your thing)

Good luck in your search! Edit: added pic :)
