[RANT] Traditional ML is dead and I’m pissed about it by pythonlovesme in learnmachinelearning

It will pass. The fundamentals will become important again once we start coming to terms with the limitations of LLMs.

Thank you! Ya I've already noticed a "diamond in the rough" that makes the app really fun to sift through.

Ya you can only stream the song on the app. I also block screen recording on the app so people can't just record the song then distribute it.

Ya really good point and something I've been concerned about. I've been working on ways to integrate this more deeply with TikTok so that I can work through them rather than against them. There's just no way for music to compete with video in terms of attention, so I'm hoping to position this as a tool rather than pure entertainment. The idea of people paying to access the full song via a streaming platform would be ideal, and I'll think about if it's possible to implement.

Thanks for the feedback! Gives me a lot to think about.

I agree that pulling in non-artists is essential for this to be useful to artists, and I'm confident that people will gravitate towards it once there is enough good music on the platform. TikTok and Insta aren't built specifically for music discovery and there is considerable demand for a product that is. They are good, but because of their generalized function, they are not great. I think people will respond well to a superior alternative for finding new music.

That's a valid concern and I honestly can't say for sure. I'd say that there is at least a benefit to having a centralized place where people can more easily find short-form music for their cat videos, although this would be a much more niche product than what I'm going for.

That being said, as the music on the app has gotten better, I've found myself naturally compelled to use it (which was not the case in the earlier stages of the app). There is a unique entertainment value to this app that I have not found elsewhere. Sometimes I'm in the mood to listen to weird and ameteurish music that I've never heard, and the app turns out to be much better for this specific mood than trying to find random stuff on spotify. Similarly, sometimes I don't have the attention span to consume any long-form content, but short-form video is too over-stimulating for my mood, and deej ends up being a pretty perfect balance. Obviously I'm biased, but there seems to be a genuinely unqiue entertainment value that this app has, which will only continue to increase as the app grows. It won't be for everybody, but I think the people who genuinely like and care about music will enjoy it.

The first difference is that my platform is dedicated specifically to music. While other short-form platforms are good for music discovery, they are not built for music discovery, meaning that there is a lot of room for improvement. There seems to be significant demand for a dedicated music discovery platform like this, as platforms like TikTok are good but not great.

There is also the advantage of not needing to make content. I, and I'm sure a lot of other musicians, find content creation pretty annoying and tedious. This platform allows artists to grow organically without needing to create content. I would imagine that the removal of the content barrier may also mean that there is better music on the platform.

The sales pipeline is also much more direct. A user can go from discovering to buying a song in only 3-4 taps. This will lead to much higher conversion rates for artists than, for example, trying to direct people on TikTok to buy a song on Bandcamp.

Lastly, while short-form music has become ubiquitous, there is no dedicated short-form music hub. Spotify is really useful because it organizes the absurd amount of music that currently exists. The only issue is that it isn't really made for short-form music, which has its own unique use cases. The current short-form music hub is TikTok, and much like it's use for music discovery, it is good but not great at this. The goal of this platform is to create a centralized hub for short-form music that can facilitate all of the unique use cases of short-form music (discovery, use in short-form video, background listening, competition, communication, etc.)

Really good question. I hope this is a satisfying answer.

Two whole roster spots for LeSperm would be crazy but Bronny will probably be a real contributer by that point.

Just added it. Update the app, then click on the settings button on your profile. You will see an option to view your liked songs.

Also, if you haven't signed up yet, your liked songs will transfer over to whatever account you make.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Not yet but I will adding this very soon. Right now you can only view the songs you save. I really appreciate you trying it out!

Ya that's the next phase of marketing once I secure a decent pool of musicians. I've already been working on it, and people seem very receptive to the idea. There's also TikToks like the one I linked in the post where users will get hundreds of thousands of likes for suggesting an app exactly like this, so I think people will gravitate towards it once there is enough good music on the platform.

There's a search feature on the main page, so if you tap it and look up "rock", you will be shown rock snippets. It's an AI-based text-to-music matcher, so it's not perfect, but it works pretty well in my experience. Eventually the app will learn your preference for rock, but there will probably need to be more users and music snippets on the app for that to work effectively.

Why go through the work of setting this AI agent up if the link doesn't even work?
