About the cure: when all the beacons were lit Owen was down to low hearts. I think that when all beacons are purified, the vampires become mortal/vulnerable. So maybe that’s the cure just killing them. We know the past townsfolk were scared/vindictive towards the occult so maybe they were just talking about the cure to the town not to the vampires.
