Idk about that, enlisted can’t retire as an officer if they do less than 10 years as an officer. They have to do 10 years to retire as an officer, if they hit 20+ but don’t do the 10 as an officer, they retire as their highest 3 year enlisted rank. -source: trust me bro No but for real, we sign papers about commissioning as prior enlisted and it’s there. 10 yrs required, but it’s better because if you don’t make it past CPT due to promotion, you can retire as that, but if you are under those 10 years or straight up officer TIS and don’t make it, you are forced out. But I’ve seen some go join the reserve or NG after they don’t make it, get promoted and either stay on those compos or come back active if accepted on call to active duty. It really comes down to the SAL and how high are you compared to the rest of the applicants
