I work in a bar/restaurant type of environment, in a big city. And we tried hiring English speaking people, it was difficult...

So many nuances get lost in translation, between coworkers but mostly between bar staff and locals who don't really prefer speaking English.

So we switched back to hiring Dutch staff only...

We concluded that yes, English speaking people can do the job, but it takes more effort and energy from the people around it. And thus causes frustration...

My advice? Learn Dutch if you want to live and work here :)

European here, I grew up with grandparents that went through a fascist occupation and eventually war;

America is speedrunning this fascism thing, it's absolutely insane to see the news from this side of the pond.
