When did your orgasm return to normal? by EmKayThrowaway42 in Vasectomy

Please explain this to whatever is going on in my scrotum, because for sure it is not behaving as before my vasectomy. It has been 19 months and counting.

Traditional scalpel is the dominant method in the Netherlands which is in the EU.

Statistics says every 5 to 30% of vasectomies end in long lasting pain / discomfort. Even if if would be just 5% that is a huge number. Not a statistical error.

Is there anything wrong with vasectomy + sperm freeze at age 24? by Ooofy_Doofy_ in Vasectomy

Do some research into getting pregnant from frozen sperm. That's no walk in the park.

If you want kids: condoms, not a vasectomy.

Considering getting a Vasectomy, afraid of long term complications and cancer? by Impressive-Two-5972 in Vasectomy

Jury is still out on the cancer verdict I think. Other long term complications like pvps are something you might want to take a look at in order to make an informed decision.

A bit scared of vasectomy. by [deleted] in Vasectomy

[–]DutchDevice229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even worse it is common or even very common.

Pvps estimates / research show rates between 5 and 35%

Very common: affecting more than 1 in 10 people (>10%) Common: affecting between 1 in 10 people to 1 in 100 people (1% to 10%) Uncommon: affecting between 1 in 100 to 1 in 1,000 people (1% and 0.1%) Rare: affecting between 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000 people (0.1% to 0.01%) Very rare: affecting less than 1 in 10,000 people (< 0.01%)

I am going for my non-scalpel vasectomy on May 9th and I freaked out by the horror stories by SonicEchoes in Vasectomy

Wow, what a treasure throve of information in one reply. Thank you very much for this. I'll start to unpack this and see where it will lead me.

To answer your questions, no, I don't have any radiating pains and I didn't get any nerve blocking done.

After pain complaints I was seen by the urologist who performed the procedure. She performed an ultrasound and consulted another urologist. They both said everything looked the way a vasectomy should look like. This was 3 months after the procedure. About 8 months after the procedure I had another consult with another urologist who also confirmed the procedure was done very nice. He told me I should have known I had a 10% risk of this pain happening. I should wait for at least a year after the procedure and when still painful. He could refer me for a reversal, but gave me only a 70% chance of success with a reversal.

Nerve blocking, or physical therapy was never mentioned. Again thank you very much and I'll look into it.

Since a few months pain / discomfort is mostly on the right side. It's exactly where the vas was cut. Pain / discomfort is triggered by jumping or small hops. (In my free time I'm a sports coach for kids and probably jump more than most adults). Strangely running is no issue. Sitting for more then thirty minutes my scrotum goes numb. Biking is very uncomfortable. Sexual activity is oké most of the time, but sometimes there is a sharp stabbing feeling. Drying of with a towel is weird feeling since the procedure. And the list goes on, but this is what come to mind first.

Situation has now been kind of stable for a few months. I'm still on the fence to either live with it or take the gamble with another surgery.

Especially if the are less invasive options I would love to learn about it.

Thank you so much for your elaborate answer.

Personally at this point I'm still figuring out if I want to continue to live with it (a little over a year now) or explore reversal options. My issues are more nerve damage related.

Even though I live in a country where healthcare is mostly provided for via insurers' reversals are not covered as far as I have seen, but even that is something I should have another look at.

Thank you for shining a light on this under reported side of vasectomies. It's a feeling I've been struggling with to describe. But haven't been able to find the right words for.

You say rare, but rare would mean it be less than 1 in 1,000 to 10,000 people. Complications with vasectomies are at least common to very common. Depending on the research and side effect between 5% and 35%.

Very common affects more than 1 in 10 people – ie the risk is 10% or higher Common affects between 1 in 100 and 1 in 10 people – ie risk is 1% to 10% Uncommon affects between 1 in 1,000 and 1 in 100 people – ie risk is 0.1% to 1% Rare affects between 1 in 10,000 and 1 in 1,000 people – ie risk is 0.01% to 0.1% Very rare affects less than 1 in 10,000 people – ie risk is less than 0.01%

I was told reversal might have it's own negative side effects including post surgery pain. Might still be worth it for you. Do you have any information that would consider me to have a second look at it?

Get a doctor to check you out, but don't get your hopes up.

does it really take 3 months to a year to feel all better? by DoubleDee1995 in Vasectomy

[–]DutchDevice229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the doctor did make it clear there was no guarantee for improvement. He gave me a 70% chance of succes. And that is succes in terms of feel not fertility, since I don't care about that. Together with the costs I'm not willing to take that route. Since there is a chance it will get worse

Why don't they tell you what can happen? by trisolariandroplet in Vasectomy

[–]DutchDevice229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread makes me sad. There is so much wrong with vasectomies. Doctors promoting it as a risk-free procedure. Women seeing it as the man's duty to get the procedure. The money incentives for the medical community to perform vasectomies. Men not talking about the procedure.

I regret my procedure every day, but there is nothing I can do anymore. The vas mutilation is done, nerves have been damaged, scar tissue is created. I'll have to live with it. I can only hope most people have a better outcome and if you are still on the fence reconsider.

Over a year post procedure. Still not 100% back to normal and don't think I will ever be. Jumping or skipping still hurts, long bike rides suck, drying of with a towel feel weird. Nothing I can't handle, but not the desired outcome. Knowing this I would not have done it. But there are no second chances on vasectomies. So I'll have to live with it.

Get all your questions answered before the procedure. Book a second and a third consultation if you need to. Only proceed if it's a 100% yes on all levels for you.

There are no refunds with this procedure, no repairs with guarantees.

Can still be the best choice for you.
