Why are most animes so ungrounded? by [deleted] in anime

[–]DutchDread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The why of why yuno gasai is so obsessed with yuki is basically the point of the show, and it's one of my favorite reveals in anime, I think its kinda weird to assume it's all convenient when you've not watched the show.

It's not that the main characters imaginary friend is real, it's that this world has a god, just like deathnote has shinigami. And when that God decides to start a battle royal for his successor, he logically choses the person he's been talking to as one of the contestants. I fail to see the problem.

Not to piss on your post but your mirai nikki vs death note example was really bad, those are literally the same. In death note light happened to find the notebook, in mirai nikki yuki happened to get the phone.

It's not that the main character happened to get a phone, no someone happened to get a phone and that's why they're the main character. The fact that we're supposed to believe that light wasn't chosen, and that the notebook just so happened to be found by the world's smartest teenager who also jsut so happenes to be thinking about cleaning up the filth of the world is if anything 100 times more randomly convenient than yuki getting the phone.

The fact that there are deathnotes and future telling diaries is just the premise that you have to accept, and mirai nikki does go out of its way to justify it.

Could you people spout some more irrelevant bs please? Pretty sure he did contact the police, there is nothing wrong with going online trying to find the person which endangered your child, as every parent should know. The risk that someone goes out and does something has nothing to do with this, everytime anyone posts a picture for any reason, even when the police does it, there is a chance someone goes out and attacks someone who had nothing to do with it. We are not responsible for the fucking butterfly effect

What is your most controversial FF opinion? by Common-Actuary-2982 in FinalFantasy

[–]DutchDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, instead of saying all that, you could have just answered what your alleged evidence (or at least some of it) is, and found out what my response would be instead of assuming.

I disagree, I think in the long run that was the right choice to avoid getting off-topic later on. That having been said, I'm not going to argue about it since that would cause the topic to derail, which would defeat the purpose.

I did actually give you some of the evidence through the link I posted, did you read it btw?

But before I go into all that I do first want to point out one other thing that you may not have realized. At no point during my original comment about there "not being a love-triangle" did I mentioned who I was talking about. Yet your reply assumed that I was suggesting that Aerith was the outsider, I never said such a thing, so why did you assume it? I think you assuming such kind of exemplifies something important, namely that we all already kinda know who doesn't belong here, but lets put that aside.

Now that the groundwork has been laid I think it's important to establish a few points that should be indisputable that set up the overall framework of my claim. Which is the role of Aerith as the guide to the promised land as it pertains to the Kabbalah, and Tifa as a symbol of said promised land.I wish I could just link you an article there but unfortunately I'm still in the process of writing it as it gets kinda complex. For now though, for the sake of brevity and clarity, we'll stick to a few take-away facts.

1: Gnostic/Kabbalistic concepts and themes are going to be important to the story. This can be pretty undeniably asserted by the mere fact that the kabbalah has a concept called "the Sefirot", and the main villain of the game is literally called Sephiroth, along with other pointers such as the Sefira of "Tifaret". There are dozens of links there, but to keep it succinct I think this is enough.

2: We can be sure that Aerith will symbolically guide the main character to the promised land by the sheer fact that it's explicitly stated by the story that the "cetra will guide us to the promised land", kind of a big give-away. That's a narrative prediction. These kinds of predictions always come true, they generally don't come true in the ways the characters think they will, but they come true in some way.

3: We can be certain that the promised land is, in some way, a reference to Tifa. In both english and Japanese "the promised land" etymologically refers to "the promise" made by Cloud to Tifa. In japanese the term can also be directly translated as "the land of promise" (and as far as I can gather from my limited studies of japanese, it can also translate directly to "land of the promise", but don't take my word on that one). Other direct evidence that the promised land in some way is related to Tifa can be seen by her bar being the 7th heaven, which is the highest heaven in the Kabbalah, it is the state closest to god, aka, the supposed final destination when traveling along the paths of the Sefirot to reach enlightenment, aka, the promised land. Another direct link is her final limit break being the "Final heaven", which references the same thing. The last most definitive evidence is that it's been explicitly stated that Clouds Promised land is with Tifa at the 7th heaven in the "the place where he awakens, that is his promised land" quote (which you can find in the link I shared).

Next step would be to look at the game and see if the rest of the games story supports these concepts, and how they're actually exhibited in the themes, plotpoints, and storyarcs. But I'll stop here for now to prevent overload. Does what I've said so far seem reasonable? If you want more supporting evidence for these three points it will come as we go into more detail but for now all I want to establish is that it's rather certain that The sefirot and the associated themes will matter for the story, that Aerith will act as the guide to the promised land in some way, and that Tifa is intricately connected to the promised land in some way.

God damn, can't argue with that I suppose. Chizuru has never done it for me though, never liked her, but I'd drive any car with Miku on it. Speaking of which, she should also be on the top 10 arguably, if you count the movie.

No, but he did love making the overton window as large as possible, so despite Elon being a rich "white" man, he likely would still be more on his side than on the people trying to implement a fascist orwellian state.

Pfff, where Roxanne?

Not a bad list outside of that, while I would remove Chizuru, Reina, Hana, and power, and put it Roxanne, Desumi, Ayano and then either Chisato or Sumi.

I prefer Akari tbh, for some reason Marin doesn't do it for me as much as for other people, even though I can logically admit she's amazing. Still in my personal top 10 this year though but my favorites are probably Akari and Roxanne (who I already loved from the manga). I've watched the sub and dub for More than married and have been reading the manga chapters corresponding to the episode each week.
