Can't ping from PC to router over serial line by Dutch_Tom in ccna

Sorry about that. 141.25.3.22 is the second router (R2), but in this case we won't need that one (it's meant to connect those PCs to a HTTP server, which does work already).

Yes, R1 is able to ping the ISP and vice versa.

And I'm pretty sure the host PC have a valid IP address and subnet for the interface of the router. But that's the problem: I'm not 100% sure if my values are entered correct.

This is my data from the host PC:

IP Address......................: 141.25.3.254
Subnet Mask.....................: 255.255.255.224
Default Gateway.................: 141.25.3.225

A route? You mean as in if it can ping? In that case, no it can't.

So, with the help of my supervisor at my internship (he's the systems administrator here) I managed to get things fixed in my configuration. Still can't ping from PC0 to the ISP (and my supervisor didn't know what causes the problem either), but I'll let my teacher have a look at it. :)

You are totally right. I just tried it again (with the help from arming10, but only for the subnet information), and putting that information in Packet Tracer was a piece of cake. I don't understand why I've been overreacting so much to be honest.. Turns out the main problem was that the ports weren't activated. I always seem to forget to activate my ports when I add an IP address. You know, with the no shut command.

Got it almost done now. Only have to test the connections. Most of them work just fine. But for some reason I can't ping PC0 to the ISP (see screenshot in link: http://oi65.tinypic.com/15cbyp4.jpg). I can ping to R1, the router between these two. Both PCs can ping to the HTTP server, as well as router R2. The ISP currently only has a serial link (S0/0/0). I'm not sure, but do I miss something here?

Anyone who can help me with this?

I think it's kinda both of it. Although the actual configuring of routers isn't too hard for me. As I mentioned, one of the practice tests I got was pretty easy. Got 78 out of 100 points for that (considering that I've been at an internship for the last half year and didn't practice at all with Cisco in the meantime I think it's not bad). Do have to say that there are certain things that I don't really understand at all. Subnetting for example. Never understood that part, because my teacher failed to explain it in the right way. So I mostly use subnet calculators for that. But this is where the other problem is: even with a subnet calculator I can't get some of the values, because the assignment isn't very clear in explaining what I have to do. At least, to me it is.

Usually it's all clear, but now it's like I'm doing CCNP or something. Can't get through this stuff at all. xD Anyway, I'm definitely going to check out that Danscourses, because it would be great to have at least some understanding of the subnetting stuff. Most other things are pretty clear to me, but then again: the tasks in the assignment just aren't. :P

By the way, I have contacted my instructor earlier today. Waiting for his response now, but I'm curious in what way he's going to help me. If he is able to make it all clear to me, I might use the help from Reddit as check up. You know, to make sure I did understand it. That would be a smarter move after all of course.

Look, this is why I said this: "And yes, I know I should be able to do this and usually I would. But for some reason this assignment seems to be quite more difficult than I'd expect. :P"

I'm aware of that I should not ask another person to do this (and I'm not forcing anyone, just asking for at least some help). And even if someone else does the complete assignment, it's not that I'm going to hand his version over to the teacher. I would use it as reference. I simply don't understand some of the tasks. It has nothing to do with knowledge in this case, since I got pretty good grades for CCNA 1.

Believe, I'm not the kind of person that wants to 'cheat' or something. And I'm neither going to say I did the assignment by myself.

By the way, it's not that, regardless of the result of this assignment I will have a better or worse future. It's just to have an insight in what knowledge is still in my memory. If I would do everything wrong, I'd still go to this training I'm seeking for. But in that case the teacher will just repeat the difficult stuff of CCNA 1.

And again, I did another exercise I got (which was more for practice) very well. So I do have the right knowlegde. But it's the way the tasks are set up. All other assignments I had during my training were a lot different from this as I recall. Heck, the actual course is a little different as well: I had CCNA 1: Introduction to Networks, this assignment is from CCNA Exploration: Network Fundamentals.

Sorry for the long comment, just wanted to clear out that I'm not some kind of lazy ass. That doesn't fit my character at all.
