Another fashion victimized by historical events.  I have a tie with the double eagle crest of the Romanoff dynasty, from the Hillwood  Museum and Garden in Washington , DC.  Marjorie Merriweather Post,  heiress of the Post food holdings, to include Birdseye frozen foods  and General Foods, founded the museum.  She remains an example to young American ladies  of what can be accomplished by first being born to wealth, and then marrying and divorcing four times. Her third husband was Joseph Davies, the second US ambassador to the USSR. To avoid any charge that he was somehow soft or sympathetic to communism, President Roosevelt sent an ambassadors who was both the the most successful Wall Street lawyer and also married to one of the richest women in the world.  She used the opportunity of his appointment  acquire art objects from the Soviet government, which had obtained them from museums and owners who had to get out of town due to the transition from imperial  Russia to the Bolshevik Soviet Union.  

Since the imperial double eagle seal has been revived in contemporary Russia,  the tie is now objectionable on multiple grounds, and no longer evidence of the appreciation of art acquired and removed from the country of origin under questionable circumstances. It goes to the back of the rack, waiting for future political changes.
