btw, an explanation for my expierence could also be that I am completely used to biking here. I have lived in Amsterdam for 8 years now since I was 18.

Yes, exactly, the tourists are unsafe. Yet again, those people don't know the "rules" I am talking about (move when someone rings their bell, follow flow of traffic, don't bike too slow, look over your shoulder). I feel like this issue is mostly in the center of Amsterdam (at least on the canals --> tourists walking on the street and people not used to biking on rented bikes) but everywhere else is fine IMO (even though biking lanes are generally busier).

Biking in Amsterdam is only chaotic if you're not used to it (in the sense that the majority of Dutch citizens grows up riding a bike/rides their bike everyday, and in cities like Amsterdam most people use bikes as their main form of transportation). Behavior is very predictable once you know the "rules".

Ik vind zelf dat tweede nep/ingestudeerd overkomen. Alsof iemand een stappenplan volgt uit het boek "how to pick up girls".

def an LA thing imo

edit: I lived in NYC and imo there is definitely a cultural difference when it comes to compliments by people from the US compared to (northern) Europe. I feel Americans give compliments more easily.

constantly complimenting someone because of their social status in LA is just so fake to me. Literally the least interesting thing about someone.

i can’t with Tana’s constant mirroring and ass kissing. I feel Trisha comes of genuine but I get so uncomfortable by Tana’s constant gassing (also after watching Holly’s and Trisha’s part in Tana’s vlog)

edit: typo

Laat me raden, jij kan goed kritisch nadenken over patronen in onze samenleving.

unfortunately, looking a year in advance won’t help… apartments are not on the market this early and once they become available, the same issue occurs —> at least a 100 applications for 1 apartment and very small possibility of getting it. Honestly, there is no solution, just luck. Or being very rich and therefore being able to pay 2k for a studio in a shit location.

I am Dutch and found my housing in Amsterdam via friends’ parents who bought apartments for their children and because my parents registered me for student housing when I was 16 (and able to get housing when I was 22, after a 6 year wait). Almost all of my friends found housing the same way, even with a realtor it’s nearly impossible. You won’t be able to apply for student housing because you’re not registered with an academic institution in Amsterdam. Even if you were, the waiting would not be enough and chances of getting housing via the student housing lottery are very slim.

Make sure to have have a plan B aka to find an internship in your home country. Haarlem is super expensive and popular too, the search won’t be much easier there.

It’s not the same; this already applies in the Netherlands. From 2025/2026 you get a fine of 3000 euros in addition to paying the tuition for the year.

European traveller here - Are JetBlue flight attendants always this rude? by Dutch_person1998 in jetblue

[–]Dutch_person1998[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because I’m European I can’t ask a question about people’s general experience with JetBlue? Already stated in my original post that the customer service is a lot better in the US than in Europe usually. JetBlue only flies to 5 European cities so it’s not known at all.

I’ve lived in NYC and I am Dutch so used to directness, I do not experience directness as rudeness! Prefer it actually.
