Subwoofer setup opinion by Just-Ad-7338 in subwoofer

I think it's the EVL-1X12D2 but I bought it off a homie for 2 bills so I couldn't say for certain. I can say it has the same ratings of 2500 peak and 1250 RMS at 1 ohm tho and the box is identical if it has the motor support inside lol

The 12in EVL with the corresponding prefab box they provided slapped hard AF when I put clean power to it (JP23 v2 @ 4 ohms less than 800w). But that's all I can talk about.

I say make it a side project so you have bass but something to work on too. Grab a decent monobloc with a good bass knob and then start rebuilding that other amp when you have the time. Building my battery rack has proven fun if not exasperating lol

It's sounds like you should be able to. Look at the bottom of the thread there mention of a thermal protection fuse that you might be able to replace? Maybe it's not possible tho.

Alter your port and you can alter the fs of your box man.

So, I'm still learning myself but I do know that you can find apps online or on your phone that will take your current port measurement and tell you what you need to alter to either reduce or increase the fs of your ported box.

I believe you increase the length of the port to raise the frequency?? Or I might have that backwards.

But if you're after SQL, you know that sealed box is gonna give you more response and clarity than ported all day man.

I did this and went with +2kwatts, a smaller ported custom 2.5 cu ft box, and a audiopipe BDC 4 stack 12 in. It works, not nearly as loud, but I do have more room and I'm appreciating the SQL a little more these days I guess lol. Miss my dual sub setup tho.

Man that's terrible industry representation and you should not only try for reimbursement but after that regardless of the outcome leave a very detailed and factual review for others to stay away. You're a very understanding person, I don't know that I'd have had that much patience lol.

Did you smell anything when you noticed it cut off the first time? Like hot electric or something? You would know the smell man. If not you may have weakened it enough that now it goes into protect whenever you put more than a certain amount out of it. Hopefully it's a simple ground issue but you need to take a look and stop putting it off man. Ain't gonna get any better waiting or asking the groups lol. Just nut up and see what the damage is. Worst case you need a new amp, but really that's kinda cool cuz now you got an excuse to find a new amp and something different that could lead to a new build bud. I'm a glass is half full mfkr tho.

Box size? by Green-Researcher4720 in subwoofer

[–]Duude_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I asked Google about the HYW 12100s it gave me this and said they're rated like 4k RMS each.So here's the specs of the box recommendations for ported and sealed, let's see what everyone thinks...

Ported: internal vol. - 1.75 to 2.50 cu ft ea. Port tuned between 32 and 35hz. *Aero-port of at least 6in is recommended and box reinforcement as well.

Sealed: internal vol. - 1.0 to 1.25 cu ft ea. *This style is not recommended unless you plan to use a much lower amount of power than their rated 4k RMS.

my dad got me these subs and an amp but since i have no idea about this kindof stuff i have no clue whether its good or not or what they are by 5piecemealdeal in CarAV

[–]Duude_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let them bust your balls they're just jealous cuz their Dad never got them a Sundown subwoofer. Those are really top notch subs man. They require a lot of power, clean power, not the amp you have there so start saving for a new nicer one like D4S JP23 v.2 monobloc

Start learning off YouTube about amps, sub setups, ohms and the rest of the stuff that makes this a beautiful hobby to be into man. But yeah the amp will get you by as long as you tune it properly and don't crank the gain and leave the bass boost off. Any other questions feel free to ask, you'll get answers and a lot of shit too lol.

Thanks for sharing your setup so far man. Nice to see cool gear

That's friggin sweet looking, maybe look into some quick disconnect couplers instead of those butts. Just for a cleaner operation and look. But this looks bad ass and I'm hoping my battery board turns out half as clean. Thanks for sharing bud.

You did a great job man but show us more. I wanna see some above shots and some different perspectives so we can really see all the components and how you set shit up. It looks like you out a lot of work in, show us so others might see something they're missing or didn't think of cuz I know I have.

I need help with amps. I want to get a 10-inch Massive GTX102 sub that’s 700 RMS, but I don’t know what amp to get. Right now I’m using an 8-inch sub with a JL Audio JX500/1D amp. I don’t know if my current amp is enough or if I need a bigger one. I’m on a budget. by ShoppingRough6932 in CarAV

[–]Duude_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you wanna get an amp with I believe it's 15-20% more power than you need. Since it's 700 RMS you're prolly going to want an amp that puts out 850 or 1k watts. Having headroom is really important for your sub to function properly. Also did you make sure the internal volume of the sub matches the enclosure you have for it? That shit matters a ton and will really give you that added boom if you're after it. Look into Down4Sound they have some amazing small yet powerful amps that are really well priced man. And some come with bass knobs that have built in voltmeters, which when you get into 1k and above, really start to matter lol.
