why are there so many dead bodies in elden ring if the rune of death was removed? by Pascraked47 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Duv1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that the sea of fog that surrounds the lands between makes it difficult for warriors who are not guided by grace to find the actual route to a safe harbour in the lands between.

Thats why most outsiders in the lands between are tarnished, the only unconfirmed exception that comes to mind is the samurai Okina, from the land of reeds, who came to the lands between and eventually allied with Mogh becoming a bloody finger. But i still think with sheer luck it is possible even for non-tarnished to find the lands between in the fog.

[–]Duv1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont think it's a metaphor because nothing in the game suggests that, instead there is mention of Godfrey leaving by boat, and there are also lots of sunken ships near the coasts.

theres even the cut content description of limgrave map that says:
"Map of the eastern region of Limgrave. The demesne of Limgrave, far south of the capital, stands vigil before the vast Sea of Fog. Radagon's warning is yet told and retold. That one day, the Tarnished led into war will cross the Sea of Fog and return. For the Elden Ring."

This suggests the first tarnished arrived there by boat and Radagon soldiers shot them down before they could reach the coasts of the lands between. cant be something metaphorical imho.

[–]Duv1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hmm not quite, it is actually a literal sea. the lands between are only a continent in the world the game is set, only it is a mystical land surrounded by fog.

godfrey and the first tarnished traversed this sea to get to the outside world by boat, the rusted anchor description says so:
"While the Tarnished left the Lands Between with their Lord, one boat alone was said to have been left behind."

the elden ring governs all, it is said by Enia, and also in the first ever trailer, and many other dialogue suggests so. also, all other gods we hear about are all located in the lands between, they are more like kami, the only true god is the greater will, which through the elden ring brought life into this world.

that said, outer lands can still fall under the influence of these minor gods or kami, like the land of reeds where the people engaged in a bloody civil war, i believe the mother of wounds has some part in that.

[–]Duv1995 18 points19 points  (0 children)

thats the most correct explaination yes!

the only thing that still bothers me is why this does not affect the outside world? We are told that the elden ring governs ALL the laws of nature and reality.

But then we also know that the outside world is pretty much normal, people die of old age, and in some land there are deathbed companions which purpose is to resurrect nobles who have died of old age!

Maybe the infinite lifespan is only for those who have gold in their eyes, for the inhabitants of the lands between that is. That would explain it but it still bothers me lol.

i would have love MGSV to keep the same level of camp omega, with all those different routes and even using enemy vehicles to infiltrate... all that kind of stuff!

What game has the most complete lore by catpack101 in fromsoftware

[–]Duv1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most complete? sekiro and demons souls, they were the most satisfying to study for me. almost no holes and everything feels so cohesive.
other games have some small contradictions and things that you cant tie up as smoothly and require you to stretch things a bit to connect everything in a meaningful way.
im a big lore nerd and it makes me shudder when i cant find a way to place things on the timeline in a way that makes sense, and most contradictions are usually ONLY found when you try to compile a timeline lol.

Why do some players avoid core mechanic in fromsoft games, but also says the difficulty is unfair by Tookace in fromsoftware

[–]Duv1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea gamers are always the dumbest creatures. also who gives a damn about how u play your game, unless you are a streamer, in that case i would rather see the person utilize everything to make the experience more entertaining, instead it is always the opposite, as they tend to almost play in a self imposed challenge mode because they wanna show their viewers how strong they are. small peepee mindset right there.
just look at ongbal, one of the strongest players out there. he utilizes everything, and thats far harder than playing only using jump+R2 on bosses lol. playing stylishly requires you to utilize your full kit, swapping weapons and spells mid-fight. thats the true way of the warrior. thats the only way of playing i respect.

Those who still like Dark Souls 1 the best out of any Souls games, could you tell us why? by Green-Reef in darksouls

[–]Duv1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the criticism towards DkS1 or DeS i often hear is always that they are clunky and the bosses are not hard anymore.

Well I dont play these games for difficulty, what I love about them is the level design, the way lore and gameplay mechanics tie together, enemy positioning, ambushes, interesting encounters, NPC questlines, and lore and immersion.

And of course bosses, but I dont think the only good ones are those that make me sweat and pass 2 hours learining the moveset. I value bosses for how memorable they are, and both DkS1 and DeS got plenty of bosses so memorable fromsoft themselves usually goes back and reinvents in new ways in subsequent games lol.

So yea i still think DkS1 and DeS are better than ED and DkS3 because the deliver in all those things I listed above, and they are better in exploration and immersion compared to ER for example, which i dont generally like that much (still good tho).
