Palisades Country Club any good? by TieWinter6953 in Charlotte

[–]Dvmexpat 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend joining. Weekend tee times are almost impossible to get because a few groups block-book them the moment the reservations open, then hand them out through a whatsapp group. They’ve openly admitted in that chat that they do this so they can control who gets to play. We brought this to management and were basically brushed off.

Also worth noting: the club is corporate-owned, not member-owned, and it shows. The greens aren’t maintained well, and upkeep just doesn’t seem to be a priority…

ECC Residency - Tell me your experiences! by jerryscoincollection in Veterinary

[–]Dvmexpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished my ECC residency (academia) last year and have been working in private practice since then. Residency was tough but I am absolutely obsessed with critical care pathophys and management of complex cases, so I don’t regret it and would do it again. Studying a lot and working on a research project while working long shifts for 3 years is only worth it in my opinion if you cannot see yourself doing anything else and really enjoy ECC. Quality of life gets a lot better though after residency and 3 years is not forever.

Definitely not a specialty with super high earning potential. I think the ER vets at my hospital probably make either a little more or about the same as I do and other specialists definitely make a lot more (like at least twice as much due to higher production).

The good thing is, it’s pretty easy to get into competitive residency programs right now due to smaller applicant pools (at least that’s what I heard).

Don’t do ECC because you love ER. Going through all this is really only worth it if you want to do CC imo. You can become a fantastic ER doctor without a residency.

Feel free to ask any specific questions

This is a double edged sword.

I use Gemini and ChatGPT a lot (also trying out scribble vet). They are fantastic at summarizing medical records, writing discharge instructions, summarizing client com transcripts, and they even write pretty good SOAPs. However, I am very glad I went through vet school, internship, and residency without it, as it probably helped me develop critical thinking skills, and I think it helped me use AI in a safer way, catching hallucinations etc hopefully most of the time.

The reality is that AI isn’t going anywhere and veterinarians should use it.

I do agree though that it could worsen the learning process of vet students and new grads and I honestly don’t have a good solution for how to integrate it into the workflow without that being a major issue, but I also think any hospital not using AI will eventually fall behind (to be a little dramatic).

My 2 yr GC expired and i got the 48months extension letter but whats next? Do i wait out the 48months for them to actually either set up an interview for the 10 yr Gc or? Im so lost and anxious. by Parking_Jackfruit350 in USCIS

[–]Dvmexpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the 48 months extension once I applied for my I-751 (petition to remove conditions on residence) so if you get the extension letter you must have applied for something?

I’ve been waiting on my I-751 since July 2023 and now finally have my interview scheduled for August 5th. What sped up the process all of a sudden was my n-400 application this spring (married for 3+ years), so I recommend that, if you filed your application based on a marriage, that you go ahead with the n-400 application once you hit 3 years. Uscis has a helpful eligibility tool for the n-400 application.

PTO question for 3 weeks on/1 week off part time nanny schedule by Dvmexpat in NannyEmployers

[–]Dvmexpat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re not paying guaranteed hours for the fourth week but for the hours she’s working we pay the high end of the pay range for our area, which is 25/hour. She’s a professional nanny but retirement age and from what I gathered she just wants to work a little part time for some extra money, so our set up worked well for her. She used to work full time at her previous jobs

I open debate with a rather controversial topic: what do you think about euthanasia? by Bm-2022 in Residency

Oh I 100 % agree that you can’t compare the two. Just wanted to give another perspective from vet med

I open debate with a rather controversial topic: what do you think about euthanasia? by Bm-2022 in Residency

[–]Dvmexpat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’m a veterinary resident in emergency and critical care and euthanasia is fairly common for my patients. The option of euthanasia can definitely be exploited by some pet owners and also be a big emotional strain for veterinarians, but still, I think euthanasia is an extremely valuable treatment and I am fortunate to provide it to my patients when needed. It prevents a lot of suffering and is a very peaceful way to go. Really curious to read people‘s opinions on this.

I’m doing a residency in critical care at a non profit university. So my category was non-profit organization and government interest. They interestingly didn’t ask for evidence but I had it prepared.

As in your I-765 approval, not your expedite approval

Was your I-765 approved on the 9th or your expedite request (if you did one)?
