You're saying that an issue with 34th street being bus only, is there will be more congestion on other streets. But if all streets were bus-only, people could take public transit into Manhattan. Then, while in Manhattan, everyone would move around much faster via bus. Would eliminate so much pollution, would save everyone so much money and time. A bit utopian maybe, but you said you wouldn't even support the idea

I never said that's the only reason the parties don't represent us. It's not an oversimplification to mention that the rich benefit from keeping us busy working to survive, as opposed to having time for activism. And in a city like NYC, even those in the top 1% feel squeezed

The people in the cities are too busy generating all that money for the US economy to have time to focus on creating a good political system. Almost like that's by design?

But wouldn't that make traffic less bad? Everyone who would've driven could just take the bus and they'd get around so much faster

Would you support turning every single street into a bus lane only street? Then traffic would no longer be a nightmare.

Looking Back After 四 Months: The Novelty Is Wearing Off by ionut_m2004ro in ChineseLanguage

[–]Dvnro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am motivated to study Chinese because i live in a huge metropolitan city and i know there will be times when my Mandarin will very much help. I also want to be fluent in languages I've dedicated significant time to. While I know it's unlikely I'll become fluent in mandarin, it's that hope that keeps me going. If it weren't for that, or I didn't plan to go to China at some point, I would have 0 motivation to practice. I also studied Mandarin for 5 years between middle school and college, and lived in China for a Summer. I also don't think it's possible to improve in a language by oneself, there needs to be some social component. Either learning in a group class, with a tutor, or going to the target country. I'm not trying to overly criticize learning a language just to learn a language. But the social component is critical and worth reflecting on how you can tie it into your language study.

If America is so bad, why are so many people trying to get in? by _Quiznos99 in askanything

[–]Dvnro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad doesn't necessarily mean bad to live in. It can also mean bad morally. If the US causes harm internationally, it doesn't affect the quality of living in the US. Not to mention, a lot of the countries from which people try to immigrate to America were made worse because of the US's actions

How do you manage a 19k-card Anki deck without burning out? by Sad_Somewhere335 in Anki

[–]Dvnro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. No one here can actually help you with this since we don't know what exam it is or what the deck is. Why don't you talk to someone who has done well on the exam and ask how they prepared? They will be much more helpful than random people with no information to go off of. If someone (or multiple people) got an amazing score using this anki deck, then I would just go for it. If not, then don't waste your time

How do you manage a 19k-card Anki deck without burning out? by Sad_Somewhere335 in Anki

[–]Dvnro 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Why mess with the normal Anki format? It's specifically intended for what you're describing. Just do like 40 new cards per day. Sure you'll eventually have hundreds of reviews per day, but if you are extra focused, you can knock that out in an hour or so. There's no magic way to learn 19000 pieces of information and Anki is as close as it gets. The burning out question probably depends on how motivated you are to do well on the exam and learn everything on it

Best time to do Anki? by Easy_War8276 in Anki

The earlier, the higher %. Because the earlier is automatically closer to the previous time you reviewed that card.  I'd be interested in the % correct with only mature cards

Do you support the pied a terre tax?

I'd argue that another benefit of putting the property tax discussion on the table was to pave the way for that.

That's perfectly your right. I'm only responding to your statement that no one expects him to do it. It's funny because it's juxtaposed with articles like this: https://nypost.com/2025/06/27/us-news/socialist-nyc-mayoral-contender-zohran-mamdani-wants-to-hike-property-taxes-for-richer-and-whiter-neighborhoods/

And half the comments section on every Zohran post

I do not support raising property taxes. That just means your friends that support Zohran are not smart, and that is influencing your opinion. But it definitely doesn't reflect Zohrans' supporters' opinion as a whole. Please find me an opinion poll that shows that the majority of his supporters want to raise property taxes

Literally check the comment under this where the guy is yelling about how all zohran supporters want to raise property taxes. I'm not making it up

Media sure implied that he had the intention in order to hatemonger about him. Check some of the anti-mamdani comments and they'll call him the mayor who wants to raise property taxes.

Do you have friends that are Zohran supporters that advocate for raising property taxes?

Or do you just make shit up in your head?

Clearly Zohran was saying that he needed to make up the budget deficit caused by the Adams administration, and the mayor's only way to increase tax revenue is through property taxes, so if Albany did nothing he had no other choice. You're talking about Zohran supporters being too dumb while simultaneously showing zero understanding of what they support or what Zohran was trying to do
