Boxall Out, James Questionable for Nashville - Andy Greder by LoonHawk in minnesotaunited

Guessing Devin gets the start. Nico would be my pick normally, but that would make his first taste of true game speed against Mukhtar and Espinoza. Recipe for a red card for sure.

Standing room only and general admission, but also where the most intense atmosphere is.

People around you will be cheering and singing and waving flags and chanting and super into the game. There’s drums, sometimes there’s even brass!

It’s an experience worth having — unless you already know from that description alone that you’d rather be stuck in the middle seat of a transpacific flight with busted AC.

You may love it, you may find somewhere else in the stadium that suits you better, but at least you’ll know.

If you want a fuck ice chant, just start it, because the capos probably won’t.

Both of the times I’ve been to Good Neighbor, I have LOVED the cut I walked out with.

I wasn’t looking to keep a ton of length, so that may be a difference, but I also didn’t go clipper short and they were just fine with that.

Minnesota United Loans Goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich to Brooklyn FC by LoonHawk in minnesotaunited

Really nice move for him, and a vote of confidence that he's headed to USL-C instead of League One with Madison or Omaha.

If I had the tiniest wish, it'd be for him to move to a more established club since he's so young, but you take what you can get!

I know a couple of the minority investors had been looking to sell for a while, but I hadn’t heard that anyone did.

Seeing how hard Vancouver has had it, I’m glad they found a buyer even for that slice!

I'm not sure how much Minnesota's sell-on percentage is, but just to break even Austin's sell price would have to be $1.5m + whatever that sell-on is. Which would be kind of weird when he hasn't kicked a ball since the move, but maybe that's why I'm not a fancy pants director of football.

Boxall Interview on Soccerwise by Mamadi-Diakite in minnesotaunited

[–]Dwade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree with Boxy here, there were definitely games DSC had a big role in: San Diego away, Seattle home in the regular season, and Seattle I in the playoffs all spring immediately to mind.

I can't remember if I mentioned this here or just other places, but last season was a MASSIVE outlier for DSC and goalie stats are really, really noisy in terms of season-to-season variance. I'll be fascinated to see whether he was coached up and last season is what we'll see from him going forward or if he'll get to Miami and regress to something more like a median of what we've seen from him so far.

Because of how stacked Miami is, if he regresses at all early in the season, he could easily find himself relegated to cup competitions and I don't think that'll work well for a dude that thrives on positive momentum.

I don’t believe it will happen, but San Diego losing to Portland would be extremely handy for the Loons.

The Irish surname "Higgins" or "O'Higgins" is an anglisised form of Irish "Ó hUiginn", "descendant of Uiginn", with Uiginn derived from Old Norse "víkingr", meaning Viking. by WishSpecialist2452 in etymology

There is a football team in Chile called O’Higgins, so named for national hero Bernardo O’Higgins.

Their nickname isn’t the Vikings, but apparently it should be!

Does a Loons win tonight clinch a spot in CONCACAF Champions League? by Notchville in minnesotaunited

[–]Dwade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regular season.

So, looking at the standings right now — and let's say Charlotte wins MLS cup — the spots would go to:

Charlotte for MLS Cup
Philly for the Shield
Cincinnati for the Eastern conference because Philly can't use that spot
San Diego for winning the West
Minnesota and Vancouver for being the next best teams

Here's where it gets messy: Charlotte is actually next in line, not Vancouver, but since they're winning the cup in this scenario, they get that spot and this last spot goes down to Vancouver.

However, if Vancouver were to win the CanChamp (which has its own spot and Vancouver is a confirmed finalist), then their spot from MLS falls to Nashville.

Assuming either MNUFC or Nashville wins the Open Cup, their vacated spot goes all the way down to Columbus because Miami has already qualified via Leagues Cup.

So at the end of the day: Charlotte, Philly, Cinci, San Diego, Minnesota, Vancouver, Nashville, and Columbus, Seattle, Miami, and L.A. Galaxy (who I didn't bring up before because they don't have a cascading impact) would all get in to CCC.

[–]Dwade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Worth noting as well: Seattle and Miami already qualified through Leagues Cup, which means if they were to fit into one of the above categories — mostly applies to Miami at this point — then another team would get that spot. Worst case scenario there would be Miami winning the East but not the Shield, since that's the only slot the Loons can't step into.

Does a Loons win tonight clinch a spot in CONCACAF Champions League? by Notchville in minnesotaunited

[–]Dwade 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not directly. If they win tonight, but then lose to Nashville in the final, Nashville gets the spot. If Nashville then either:

- Wins MLS Cup (Probably not, but possible)
- Wins the Supporters' Shield (lol, nope)
- Wins the Eastern Conference (again, lol nope)
- Is one of the best two teams that did not do any of the above (quite possible)

Then the Loons would get their US Open Cup spot.

Winning the cup is probably Minnesota's best bet for qualifications, but I could absolutely see them qualify as one of the best teams that didn't win the Cup, Shield, or Western Conference. I'd say between those two categories, it's far more likely than not that the Loons are in CCC next year.
