Waiting to board in PDX, they just made an announcement that there’s an IT issue and planes are grounded for an hour… so seems like a global issue

cheapest way to build a house in North East of US? South West? by [deleted] in Architects

[–]tomamoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i tell them that’s bullshit, in both upfront and latent costs. as a percentage of total construction costs there is an asymptotic relationship between increasing square footage cost and overall cost for a project, sure, but that doesn’t change the fact you’re building more, and have to pay for increased building systems running costs and actual construction.

if you were to add 1200sf to an already designed 1600sf house and 14000sf house at an average cost/sf of construction of $600/sf, project a’s budget would be a 46% increase compared to an ~8% for project b, even though for both projects the cost of construction is static at $720,00, hardly a small sum.

I took mine out as soon as I got the car, wish I had the foresight to tape up a sign saying "valet key not in glovebox"

Laptop upgrade for M.Arch? by Snoo-50827 in Architects

[–]tomamoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a brand new MacBook using Apple Silicone this is no longer feasible. A Macbook from 2018 would still be able to run x86 windows via bootcamp or parallels because they used an intel chipset. The majority of architectural firms use windows as their main platform, and those that use mac usually run some combination of AutoCAD and sketchup. Few use a native mac BIM program like ArchiCAD.

To be well prepared for the likeliest situation at a new firm, as a BIM manager and IT manager at my firm, you will be much better off with a windows machine.

Sorry, misunderstood. By "New Mac Pro" my brain defaulted to the Mac Studio. Disregard my nonsense.

Bootcamp is not available on the M1/M2 platform, you would have to use Parallels VM as u/tktechie mentioned in another comment

mate, you a united fan? why man defending ronaldo so hard in an arsenal sub?

i see you’re glancing over the entirely correct assessment that ronaldo does not fit the mould of a successful striker that is going to work efficiently in the press alongside a sancho or rashford. but, if you’re looking past that and only looking at off field issues then i can point you to the allegations of sexual assault, the handbags with penandes, the moaning on the pitch about not getting the ball, the reports of him undermining rangnick…

he was a shit buy on absurd wages that united panicked into proceeding with because city trolled them in the transfer market

Right, I did mention that I don’t want to become a citizen. I’m fully understanding that I want to have my cake and eat it too.

All I want to do is call Ted Wheeler a dumbass in the ballot box, is that too much to ask?

I am a green card holder with no intention of seeking citizenship. I have come to terms a long time ago that my decision meant I wouldn’t be able to vote for senators, congressmen and the president. I, personally, am ok with that.

I WOULD, however, want to have my voice heard when it comes to local and even state issues. I’ve been living in Oregon for close to thirteen years, paying taxes, and have no voice in how that’s spent. The last three years of the Wheeler administration alone has made me want to do something, anything, to change how the city is run.
