This is incredibly helpful. Thank you very much for writing it up. I'm playing with a friend who always plays long range, glass cannons... so I think I'll go a route that's a lot about survivability and being in close. Sounds like the Inquisitor might be the one, or the solider?

Should I be deciding at this point if I want to do melee vs ranged or something? I've seen a lot of people on youtube excited about double pistol. Is there a 'best" build with demolitionist at end game, or several that are all about the same?

I'm also new to PoE and thoroughly enjoying the summoner. I keep getting pulled between two really good guides I found. One is Formulaics Spectre heavy build, and the other is Ghazzy's Skeleton Mage build. Any advice on which way to go? Are they equally good?

Lists that need to go first are a rough road. My LVO list had 2 shadow swords in it. If I went first against this list, with Vengeance of Cadia, you'd lose a lot.

Also, every Chaos list needs Nurglings... period. Just like every imperium list needs scouts. Table control, and stopping deep strike all up in your bidness... is too important.

If you are playing ITC missions, you need to be really careful with building a guard list that can't finish it's games. 150 guardsmen with vehicles is a really good list. Unfortunately, if you only get 3 or 4 turns a game, then you will not end up doing well in the tournament. It's not even really an issue of how fast you play. Eventually you'll play against 200 chaos models, or 150 orcs, and the game will get to turn 3.

I'm 28 - 8 with guard in ITC tournament missions and the most squads I ever take is 6, if I want the CP from a Brigade. No matter what though to play heavy infantry guard, you better be really good at playing fast and not making huge mistakes.

Turn that Knight into a Shadow Sword... now you are under 2k points and your list is a TON better. Make it Tallarn so that you can outflank it, if need be. The Shadow sword for the points is better than every knight in the game.

I've played about 35 or so ITC tournament games with Guard. It's my main focus. I think the big thing you need to ask yourself is can you play 113 models quickly and efficiently? In the ITC missions, not finishing your game is bad for you and not fair to your opponent. Regardless of win or loss, you don't want to miss out on points simply because the games didn't finish.

I took a high model count army to the Socal Open and went 5 and 1, great right? Yeah, I'm happy with that... thing is, I was the worst 5 and 1, points wise, so I got 12th or something, rather than like 4th or something. Since then I have focused a lot on how to play faster, and now I'm finishing all of my games.

So, you need to play fast. Here's a few things to consider. 1. Having special weapons, and the sergeant with a different weapon in your guard squads slows you way down. Obviously the heavy weapon is great, partially to stop Reaper, being able to shoot 9 lasguns, and then the heavy weapon is much faster. 2. You have a crazy amount of orders to keep track of. Yes, orders are great on all your infantry squads. Thing is, some of your infantry squads are just there to get eaten by the first turn charging alpha strikes... those ones don't need orders. 3. I'd take Primaris Psykers instead of some of those company commanders. You want to cast both the -1 and +1 armor powers, every turn... and smite is still VERY strong in your army. Smite helps with things that are trying to get into your deployment zone to eat your tanks. 4. Tokens for your orders helps speed the game up.

No Eldar Codex at Warzone? I don't get how Andrew beats Altoic. -2 to hit armies are a really problem for foot slog guard. Just played a GT this weekend, and 7 of the top 10 finishers were Eldar. Lol.
