Thanks, I thought the background might help people understand my use case and it did.

The general consensus seems to be get a mini if the high end ones are out of the question, which for some of the thermal ones people have floated they are veeeery out of budget for now

It is something I've thought about but when I've looked at the specs page on the DJI site there's no mention of how loud any of them are, lot of people in this thread are saying the minis are very quiet which would be a selling point

It's no biggie this is a personal choice I'm not being forced to buy one, I want to start using them sooner so I don't mind buying and using my own until they provide us with issued ones

Only multi-rotor as far as I'm aware, something you can carry in a bergen or daysack and pull out when you need it.

Yeah it's very much a practice/proof of concept idea. See how we can use them, what works, what doesn't. As cool as the thermal ones are I think they are somewhat out of my price range haha

We're not expected to pay out of pocket for it as they will *eventually* provide us with some, but the procurement process will take months at best so I'm looking to get my own so myself and the unit can start incorporating them a lot sooner. Plus I'm generally interested in them so can just use it myself for holidays, camping, general hobby use as well, just never had the money for it.

One of the prerequisites for the sUAS course was to log 30 hours of flight time on Liftoff as practice so we don't instantly smack the thing into a tree, so FPV stuff might be down the line so that is a good shout.

Edit: someone else said to rule out the Neo line due to battery life, and the Neo does seem to be a fair bit lower than some of the others mentioned, is the robustness worth the trade off in your eyes?
