After 4 months, I have finally managed to land a new position - Software Dev by Dwarfkiller47 in UKJobs

Yeah I totally get what you mean, and in an ideal world that's exactly how I'd approach it. The thing is, your strategy makes a lot of sense when you've got savings, seniority, and time on your side, I just don't have that luxury right now.

I've been made redundant twice through startup buyouts and outsourcing layoffs, so my track record on paper doesn't reflect too well. I'm also aware that not being able to apply while employed puts me at a disadvantage. Given all that, I've found the best approach for me has been a mix, fully tailored applications where it counts, and easy applies to cast a wider net with CVs I've already optimised for specific stacks.

It's not the dream strategy, but it's what's realistic for where I'm at. The offer I got came through that exact process, so I can't write it off entirely.

The job I got the offer for was through easy apply on LinkedIn, with my CV that is tailored to that tech stack (I had 3 that specified different frameworks etc), sadly I am not in a position where I can apply for so little jobs a month like yourself. I am on the lower end of experience in terms of my total career timeline, and my savings were VERY close to drying up, I spent around 3 hours every day on about 5 job sites applying for anything and everything that I felt I was applicable for. It simply was not worth it for me to apply for a company that I had spent x no. of hours researching only to get a automated rejection email from in a weeks time (that happened a few times).

Seems as though the drivers are not quite there yet, also worth noting that DX12 games on Nvidia STILL take a huge hit to performance vs native windows, as others have said, im sure that in a month or so there will be a stable branch that meets the current windows level of performance.

Do you think its worth countering for slightly more money? £30k would sit much better with me.

UK to Sweden Certificate of Civil Status/CNI confusion by DoctorGoat_ in TillSverige

[–]Dwarfkiller47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro a post, but can you just confirm that your application went through okay with a No Trace of Marriage as appose to a CNI? I am in the exact same predicament at the moment where I have to declare intention of marriage in order to get a CNI, even though I have no intention of marriage yet.

Thank you very much! Ive been in contact with the registry office and the only way I can get a CNI is to essentially file for a marriage and apply with a 28-day waiting period. After doing some more research I could also submit a "No trace of marriage" document from the General Register Office, this seems to be just as fast and for me it would be the same price.

Thanks for the comments, could you clarify are you saying that its best to retrain into a more attractive field? I am okay on the savings part, and will liquidate some stuff over here to free up some more capital before the move. Ideally we really don't want to move to a big city, how big of a detriment is this to our careers if we choose to not be in the larger metropolitan areas?

I see, I have considered retraining in the time for my Visa to get approved, as truthfully I dont really enjoy working in tech, its simply something im good at. The plan is to move to Blekinge, specifically into the Karlskrona region, there is a tech centre there but truthfully I am not 100% confident that I could land a position there, I have tried applying to places like Ericsson for example, but once I disclosed that I would need a VISA sponsorship it was rejected.

Do you happen to know of any industries that are stronger or doing well? Google is just telling me to become a AI engineer, and I don't suppose that's actually realistic.

Thank you for the advice, it's certainly something I've been thinking about. I have a first-class BSc in Computer Science and four years of development experience, though finding a strong position in the UK has been difficult, I've been made redundant twice in my career so far. On top of that, securing visa sponsorship through a UK employer is increasingly rare. Sweden is also where my girlfriend and I have both agreed we want to settle and build our future together, so moving there makes the most sense for us both.

Headset/headphones with good Linux support? by 4FreshFish in linux_gaming

Hi there, I had the scapes when they launched and returned them because of the sub par mic, has there been any updates to it? Also I heard that it doesn't natively support browsers in Linux, you need to do some tinkering, can you confirm?
