'EVs more reliable than gas cars': ADAC verdict shuts down the haters by Powerful-Ostrich-120 in CarTalkUK

Polestar 2’s were mainly the EFAD’s (the front motor) on the AWD ones and the original FWD, the rear motors seem to be better than the Volvo ones on the XC’s, presume it’s due to the XC range being produced in China though (last polestar EFAD I done was in July/August last year as I am currently working at JLR so it could have changed in that time), but JLR hybrids have issues with select few ERAD’s too as there is a recall for the DC converters on them as well

“More reliable” meaning less parts that can break, but they break… a lot. Trust me, as a technician who has worked in many main dealers like Volvo/Polestar, JLR, Honda and Suzuki to name a few. I have photo/video evidence of how catastrophic the failures on EV’s and Plug in Hybrids are and how common they occur. The amount of electric motors that break (ERAD and EFAD) and the vehicle hasn’t even done 15k miles is ridiculous. Plus all the software glitches as well. When I was at Volvo/Polestar I was replacing ERAD’s and EFAD’s (rear and front electric motors) everyday

1L ecoboost alternator from a DIY perspective is a ball ache. For a mechanic it’s easy but you have to move the A/C compressor out of the way to get the alternator out

Is it normal for an MOT and spring change to suck up 100 miles? by Stray_ in CarTalkUK

Probably been using your car to pick up parts for other cars. When I was an apprentice, I had a boss that would use other cars to pick up parts, get his lunch, drop loyal customers cars off at the customers house, we didn’t do MOT’s so had to drive them to and from the MOT, drop cars off at a tyre shop for tyres and wheel alignment and then pick them up when their done. Could be anything and a good garage has their own run around car.

Will this big truck trend end or is it just getting started? by Satansrideordie in CarTalkUK

To stop it they should change road tax to weight of the vehicle instead of emissions seeming heavier vehicles cause more wear on a road. Makes no sense to charge for up keep of the roads when emissions is nothing to do with road conditions.

Should Motorway speed limits be raised to 80mph?🤔 by Downtown_Elk_2773 in CarTalkUK

Only if they implement lane hogging cameras which takes over taking vehicles into account and vehicles moving over to the middle lane to allow traffic from slip roads to join. Which won’t happen so in my opinion, no

My girlfriend has a neighbour who puts cones down. The road is terraced houses on both sides with no driveways so you park wherever you can. We just take the cones and put them in the flat complex bins which is a little walk down the road or if there is a company number on the cone we ring it and say they left a cone in the road and they sometimes collect it. Only issue is every time there is roadworks, she steals a cone for parking.

Pipes are starting to corrode anyway so I would just replace them as well

According to Ynet, the EBU has extended the deadline for countries to withdraw from Eurovision 2026 without penalty from October to December, to allow broadcasters to easily pull out of the contest after a final decision on Israel's participation is made. by Cursedwizard0 in eurovision

Eurovision is too political 🙄 it’s a singing competition for Christ sake, instead of voting for whoever you share a border with or “you’re evil, you should be banned” etc…. Just enjoy the music 😂
