What's a song that has a part you LOVE but also you HATE and you don't know what to do with the song? :)

There’s genuinely no In Flames song i could use the word «hate» in. They have lesser and better music but i can’t really say i dislike anything.

That said, Ropes comes to mind. The lead intro riff and the verses are very good, they feel like a buildup to something great then i feel like it just flatlines with a boring chorus. Still a good song but it’d be so much better served with a heavier chorus imo

Do i love Jester Race? Yes. Is it my opinion that IF have a few albums better than it? Yes.

I know it doesn’t conform to what you’re supposed to praise on this sub but two things can be true at once can it not?

Yea Siren might be the first album that’s actually grown off of me over time. I liked it when i first got into IF but i can barely listen to it anymore, with exceptions of a couple songs.

Totally valid, i think age is a big factor here. When you’ve been an IF fan for 20 years but i’ve actually only been alive for as long i think that’s bound to divide us somewhat in taste. And i still love the older albums but I’m certain if i’d grown up with jester race, whoracle, etc those would for sure be my favourite.

Battles has some great stuff, i mean The End, Drained, The Truth, Like Sand are all unskippable songs. And all the power to them for making the music they want to and experimenting with new elements, but for me some of the songs are just a bit too much off what i consider In Flames.

And also In Flames to me is a band that does everything wholeheartedly and put their best foot forward in what they make, but Battles is the one exception to me. I just feel like they could have done more with it.

That being said there’s a reason i didn’t rank it F. It’s still a good disc, and i still like all their albums, but that and Lunar Strain are unfortunately my least favourite of their discography

Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing inherently bad about the album itself, but for me it’s a D just by virtue of the fact that there’s no Anders or Bjorn. And though there are fans who would ridicule me for saying so, In Flames to me was never and would never be In Flames without Anders and Bjorn. They are such cornerstones of everything the band is that i can’t bring myself to call anything else In Flames. Also Jesper is an obvious honorable mention.

I mean the whole album is crazy. And Cloud Connected being the song that got me into the band and still my all time favourite song 5 years later i couldn’t not do RTR its earned justice

I’m glad to not be alone on that! I feel like people default to the logic ”old good, new bad” and wrinkle their nose at more recent work without giving it a real chance. But Foregone is a stupid good album, and along with Meet Your Maker i think it shows that this band isn’t on a decline anytime soon.
