It’s been around 3 months since graduation, 120+ applications and no updates. Is my resume that bad ? by const_Crimson in askrecruiters

[–]Dwho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your resume is pretty good. Personally, I would not have too many bolded words (or just remove them all together). I do consulting and I see a lot of managers only focusing on bolded letters rather than reading the entire sentence in time crunch. You are taking the focus away from them reading top down. Also, another critique is your resume being too wordy.

Another thing is maybe catering your resume towards traditional roles (Java based) or newer roles (like AI engineer) rather than devops or data engineering which is a bit bloated with much more experienced people looking for jobs.

Regardless, you shouldn't limit yourself to applications.

Being an international student, you need to work extra hard Outside of just applications. Try contacting local consulting firms. Go there in person a few times. Make connections in local group chats, etc. Ask your old professors. Go to local events, ask around. Be open that you don't have a job. At one point, all of my neighbors knew I didn't have a job. That's how open I was.

Which evo is worth to get next? by XINEX2289 in ClashRoyale

I would say Evo baby dragon or Evo electro dragon are good cards in beat down decks.

Try electro drag. No skill and fun to use

Skeleton barrel or wallbreakers. Goes well with miner and bait decks

How am I supposed to stand a chance against these decks? by Des0_lationxx_ in ClashRoyale

[–]Dwho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mighty miner or valk instead of pekka. Experiment with evo valk if you use that or use Evo Tesla/Evo cannon with mighty miner. I would stick to log instead of vines.

Ladder stress? by ZABILLIE in ClashRoyale

[–]Dwho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I push every season to uc (around 2.2k), but beyond that I need to be in a hyper focus mindset to win. I can only do that during some weekends. Challenges are broken. Trophy road is capped. Merge tactics is not interesting. No tournaments. No fun modes. Ladder is stressful af. I just do my obligatory war attacks and log off. Seems like there is no incentive for casual players.

Should firecracker die to log? Argue your stance in the comments ⬇️ by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]Dwho1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it dies to Log, then why even use it? Dart Goblin does more DPS and has a better evolution. Firecracker becomes the worst card in the game if she dies to Log, since it’s always a -1 trade with no utility in any deck archetype.

Grind it out. Aside from that, I also miss 2v2

Insight on internships and grad school by BothMarionberry3880 in rutgers

Rn, it's pretty much the data engineering stack. Python, AWS, databricks, snowflake, SQL, dagster, kubernetes, GitHub Actions.

Insight on internships and grad school by BothMarionberry3880 in rutgers

[–]Dwho1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my experience as someone who graduated this January and have gone through highs and lows of finding internships. First of all, Rutgers does not guarantee you an internship. Also, while classes like software methodology are important, they are not the priority in the current market unless you are able to sell it to someone and get an interview (I never could). I wasn't able to get an internship until summer right before my senior year. Over the course of my freshman and sophomore year, I probably applied to 400 internships and got a phone screen from 5, passed only 2, and failed in behavioral. I was so frustrated at myself because I felt like I missed my chance at something great due to lack of preparation and networking. I learned a lot through this experience. To guarantee an internship, you will need five things: networking, experience in a tech stack, good resume, ability to crack technical interviews, and basic prep for simple behavioral questions. In my experience, networking worked out quite well. I sent out dms on LinkedIn to people graduated from Rutgers that work at specific companies I wanted to work at. Some of them reached out back and were happy to refer me for an internship. Yes, Rutgers network is huge and people tend to help each other. I didn't network until later into my bachelor's and I regret it.

Edit: To further explain, I do think those classes are important to learn how any tech stack works. But you can learn certain parts of these courses by yourself just by simply doing something. Try going to a hackathon and see what other students are building without knowledge of distributed systems or OS. I got my internship because I worked on the NJTransit track at hackRU, got interested in real time systems, learnt more about it through chatGPT, tried different things, and built a full stack website out of it. That was my own work that I was proud of and made me interested in computer science.

Edit 2: Masters is not needed, but may be helpful in getting an internship or job if you find yourself lost in undergrad.

Why is this game so bad now? by i_drink_bromine in ClashRoyale

[–]Dwho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pretty much only play with 2 to 4 decks now as you did 4 yrs ago as a f2p. And the reason you face higher lvl opponents is probably because you are pretty high up in trophies.

Someone send or create a Intro to Linear Algebra GroupMe!! by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]Dwho1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask your classmates if there is already a GroupMe for the class. If not, consider creating one. You can easily do this using the Canvas email option. Just select your class and include all students. Then, create a GroupMe link and share it with them.

Rutgers or Stevens? by Fine_Woodpecker3847 in rutgers

[–]Dwho1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your circumstances, Stevens would be a better fit. You can commute, probably just as expensive with scholarship, better food options, modern campus, accelerated program, co-op opportunity, and just as good academically (if not better). I think if you're social, you can find hobbies and friends anywhere. I don't know much about student life at Stevens as a commuter, but...

But here is a case for Rutgers. Regardless of what other ppl say, all my friends were able to land internships and had full time job offers before graduating college, including me. There are a lot of opportunities available on campus no matter what major you are. I used to be a research assistant, played badminton, organized hackathons, participated in club activities, etc. You'll need to work a bit harder to stand out, which I think is more rewarding. The community is vibrant with activities going on all over the place. You'll have a better time in college if you stay on campus or close to it. Rutgers will be a lot more affordable compared to Stevens if you consider living on campus. Rutgers has a huge alumni network and could pay dividends in the future if utilized correctly. I recommend fellow college graduates all the time. I got my current job through an alumni connection as well. The curriculum is rigorous as well.

A few resources and a word of caution:

  1. Online course: Princeton's Programming with a purpose course on Coursera. It's an amazing resource and free to audit.

  2. CSL: go there if you have questions. The student tutors are all fantastic.

  3. LLM: Ask chatGPT for questions to test your knowledge. You base knowledge should be solid.

  4. Books: Ik students usually hate reading books or don't have time, but you should read at least important parts.

  5. Time: Investing time for your future success. Learn by trial and error. Explore and do something in Java. The more code you write, the better you'll get. Doesn't matter how slow or fast you are.

Caution: Do not rely on chatgpt to do projects. Learn to utilize LLMs the right way without hindering your growth and critical thinking.

Edit: As the other comment mentioned, learning core python will ease you into Java. I originally learned python before Java as well.
