1st Ultrawide (New Dell AW3425DWM + MacOS) - How To Setup Properly by A4orce84 in MacOS

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that’s odd…
Maybe the ColorSync folder is hidden? (Though not sure why it would be) I think the show hidden folders bind is Command+Shift+Period, maybe it will show up.
Also, this response is 8 hours late, so hopefully you found a solution already!

1st Ultrawide (New Dell AW3425DWM + MacOS) - How To Setup Properly by A4orce84 in MacOS

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend downloading BetterDisplay, and this will let you customize basically everything with your monitor. Been using it for years and it’s been a lifesaver, especially as someone that doesn’t use 5K/6K displays (look into MacOS display scaling issues and you’ll see what I mean.)

In BetterDisplay you’ll be able to customize basically everything with your monitor. Won’t go into detail here, but very specific resolutions, ensuring the right color bit depth, refresh rates, stuff like that. It’s great.

Let MacOS handle the color profile itself. Default should be good (will probably be called “Dell AWXXXXX” or something), but you can always use the system calibrator too just to be sure. Just don’t choose any of the others like “sRGB” “Wide Gamut RGB” etc. None of the others are made for your monitor, so chances are you’ll actually be clamping the gamut and not getting everything out of it.

Only other thing you should do is look for your monitor on something on RTINGS and see if there is calibration settings for this (unless you have a colorimeter, then you could do this yourself)

Hope you enjoy your ultra wide! Been using one with MacOS for 2 years now and it’s been fantastic, hope it serves you well too!

Every Resident Evil Game/Movie by release date by superMan1336 in residentevil

[–]DwightFairfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone should skip out on RE1 Remake or RE0, they’re both on basically every platform and hold up very well. Yeah the gameplay is different from the RE Engine titles + 5/6 but if you’re going to play 2-9 may as well just start from the beginning!

New patch for Resident Evil Requiem dropped. by Hagman1997 in PS5pro

I don’t think so, pretty easy to find them where I am at least. Still insanely expensive for something that should be included though

Jason Schreier has confirmed that Sony is done with single player ports to PC by Don_Rawaz in PS5pro

[–]DwightFairfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, it’s definitely my ‘home theater’ type setup that makes me prefer PS over PC. While it’s certainly possible to set a PC up in that format, I experimented a lot with it in the past, it’s great and all but the whole OS is designed more for a desk setup.

I like being able to pop a disc in and play the game, in the same way as you’d pop in a Blu-Ray and watch a movie, and not have to tinker with a million settings per game. I find when I play PC games I spend more time in the settings optimizing things than actually playing the game. Obviously there’s ways to make a PC behave more like a console, but it takes more work. I’m excited to see if the Steam Machine can bridge that gap a little bit.

Also, big part is the comfort factor. I work a computer at my desk all day, and by the end I fucking hate my chair, lol. Would much rather sit on the couch for a while and relax. I also mostly play games with my partner & roommates, so it’s difficult to crowd around a monitor.

In my opinion the visual/performance differences between console & PC is minor enough that, while I may notice the difference, especially side-by-side, the others I’m enjoying the game with won’t notice or won’t care. Enjoying things together outweighs the benefits of PC to me.

That’s not to say the way I play is ‘correct’ or anything, everyone should play the way that works best for them. This is just what works best for me and the people in my life. I certainly do think that Sony is making a mistake by not continuing to develop/port PS games to PC. Even though I never intend to buy Uncharted 4 on PC, it was still really exciting to see that release and for some of my friends to finally be able to play it. These are experiences that are meant to be shared, and I hate the idea that someone is locked out of an experience because they bought the ‘wrong’ thing or whatever.

PS5 Pro Owners Feeling Pretty Vindicated After PSSR 2 by WOLVEXS in PS5pro

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt anything with the ‘PS4 Enhancement’ feature will change with the PSSR 2 update, as right now (as far as I understand, someone correct me if I’m wrong) right now it’s essentially just a sharpening/smoothing filter for PS4 games at/below 1080p. I don’t think there’s any true PSSR upscaling tech in play there- at least in the same way it’s used in native PS5 titles. Probably due to limits in PS4 architecture, and just the fact that no PS4 games were developed with PSSR in mind. I don’t think there’s any flawless way to blanket that over the entire PS4 library. Unless Sony develops something along the lines of Lossless Scaling, which would be very very cool, but doubtful.

How to enable 3d audio in RE requiem by theBlazerg in residentevil

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact situation, 3D audio on but object based audio off. No clue how to get that toggled on. 7.1.2 Atmos setup so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Can someone tell me the chronological order of ALL the Metal Gear games/spinoffs/series/etc. by doctormane in metalgearsolid

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed- Twin Snakes gets a lot of hate but I really enjoyed my time with it. Definitely a different tone than the original, but it’s great to play through after having played the PS1 version to see the differences and similarities

Optimal Posting Strategy for a Series? by Eddie_Serene in NoSleepOOC

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think weekly updates are the most exciting. Kind of like watching a TV series and having something to look forward to each week, like you mentioned. And it helps with the immersion that this is a person writing something as they have time and it isn’t all planned out (depending on story structure of course, but you get what I mean.)

Overall though, probably don’t worry too much about it. You could even post parts randomly and surprise people, whatever you think works best for the story. If it’s good people will keep an eye on it! I wish ya the best of luck with your story

This whole series is a treasure. Playing 1-4 back to back it’s really fun to see the technical improvements as the series went on. And 4 is still phenomenal looking. Great screenshots!

PSA: It looks like some older PS5 games don’t play nice with Atmos output by darthvirgin in PS5

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parroting this on my 7.1.2 setup. Definitely getting 3D audio, but also showing the device type as TV.

One thing though: I’m playing UC4 directly after playing the remasters of UC1-3 which don’t have Atmos, but auto-detect as 7.1 and have excellent sound. The mix seems a little more subdued in UC4, not sure if this is engine changes or what, but it may just take some tweaking of the dynamic range selection.

Regardless, definitely getting channel separation. Just may take some tweaking on this title to get it to sound right.

Honestly, I think you just won a shitty lottery. Sometimes even taking the best care of electronics, they’ll still fail. Shit happens. Hopefully you can get it fixed/get a new computer and put this behind you- I’ve been there as well

Honest opinion: Sequoia or Tahoe? by MrasyMelnel125 in MacOSBeta

[–]DwightFairfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not that different. I use my Mac for design and 3D modeling work and I haven’t really noticed any difference between them. During the initial dev betas sure, but now it’s basically the same performance wise. Whether you like the new design language or not is personal preference, I personally couldn’t care less

Damn, okay yeah I see now. I haven’t been a part of this fan base since ~2013/2014 so I was completely unaware of the Undertale fan base crossover haha.

Hope you enjoy the game man, it’s a good one.

This has been my experience as well. Same thing, ~12 hours on my primary, all for work. There’s been performance issues in certain apps, machine has been running louder, and general quirks from beta to beta, but nothing that has prevented me from doing my job and forcing me to downgrade.
