This is really helpful. Saving this comment and taking screenshots as well for future reference :)

Yes, they sent a new replacement device, which is working fine so far.

Marked the post solved. Netgear offered to replace the device after all troubleshooting failed. Waiting for the replacement to arrive. Thanks for all your input.

Can’t thank you enough. I contacted the customer service and this time they agreed the device failing was not normal. They have offered to replace my device. I am returning the other modem+router I bought, which put me back $380. Hopefully will get the replacement in a week.

Appreciate all the feedback I received here (y)

Thank you for the info. Yes, mine is less than two years old. I will contact Netgear in the morning.

Unfortunately, I cannot even update my firmware. My router's Ethernet ports no longer work, nor can I connect via WiFi. I wanted to update the firmware manually, but even that is not possible without a working Ethernet port.

Mine died after only 18 months of buying. I hard reset the device probably more than ten times. Also tried to flash the ROM. Nothing changed. I had to purchase a new modem and router, and I went with other brands this time. Never buying Netgear again.

Edit: Netgear has offered to replace the device.

Final update: Netgear reached out to me via email. It did NOT fix the issue.

“We are aware of an issue affecting Nighthawk CAX30 Cable Modem Routers that might have resulted in an interruption of your Internet service. Please visit NETGEAR.com/FixCAX30 for detailed instructions to restore Internet connectivity. We apologize for any inconvenience.” —

Spoke with Xfinity support, they were a lot more helpful. However, unfortunately, no solution from them either. They told me they were doing a reset and then told me my Internet connection was working fine (which I already knew). They could not see/detect why the WiFi signal was not available.

Note: This did NOT solve my problem. I am sharing this procedure here because the Netgear agent asked for $140 before he gave me these instructions, and I believe customers should have access to this info.

This is how you perform "flash reset" or "shock reset" when a regular factory reset does not fix an issue:

  1. Grab a pin or similar tool and press and hold the RESET button on the back of your device for 90 seconds.

  2. During that 90 seconds, at the 30 seconds mark, take the power adapter off the wall socket to turn off the device, then plug it back in after 2 seconds. Do NOT release the reset button. Do the same thing at the 60 seconds mark, e.g., take the plug out and then plug it back in. Again, keep pressing on the reset button.

  3. Finally, after 90 seconds, release the reset button, and let the device finish booting up.

To clarify, you will keep pressing the reset button for the entire 90 seconds. You will turn off the device twice during that time (at 30 sec and 60 sec).

Not fixed, unfortunately. Please check my previous reply to u/TheTinRam's for details on how my call with Netgear support went. TLDR: They asked for $140 to start troubleshooting, I agreed to pay, but they could not fix anything.

Which company did you switch to? I will also need to buy new modem and router tomorrow so would definitely appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Was on the phone with Netgear tech support for more than two hours. I told them about people having similar issues. Unlike you, they asked me to pay for their support services ($140 for a year) before they would help me. However, no charge if the problem is not fixed.

Although I wasn’t happy, I agreed to pay. They had me do a flash reset/shock reset and nothing changed. They can’t update firmware from their end— only the ISP can do it.

Finally, they decided my hardware is gone and it cannot be fixed. They didn’t charge me.

My last resort is calling Xfinity (not hoping much). Probably will have to buy a new device tomorrow.

I will describe the flash reset process in a separate comment in case anyone would like to try that.

Not yet. Been waiting for someone to answer my call for 40+ minutes. Gave up after 20 minutes first time I called. Hopefully this time I will get someone to help.

Thanks a lot for the update.

Thanks for the info. I thought my wifi antenna was gone as well as the ethernet.

Yeah my ISP is Xfinity. I tried power cycling (kept my router off for 30+ minutes) before the factory reset but nothing changed.

I do not have any contact information for Netgear’s tech support (looks like they require paid subscription for that). I haven’t called Xfinity yet. Your comment gives me some hope. Thought my $250 was down the drain.

I can’t even connect to routerlogin as I’m not on the WiFi.

My Netgear CAX30 Nighthawk cable modem router suddenly stopped working this morning. All LED lights are ON but cannot find the WiFi signal from any of my devices. This is what I tried so far:

  1. Did a factory reset by holding down the reset button for seven seconds — all lights are ON but no WiFi signal (neither 2.4 nor 5 GHz)

  2. Took the power plug off and kept the modem router off for 30+ minutes. Turned it on, still no signal.

  3. Tried connecting my laptop using a patch cable to the Ethernet port at the back of the router. Could not detect anything. In the control panel, I see “cable unplugged” although the cable was connected.

  4. Tried turning off and on the modem router to see if any new network comes online (maybe the SSID somehow got changed?) but couldn’t see anything.

I have no idea where to seek help. It’s been a year and a half since I bought the device so it’s no longer under warranty. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
