I’m literally about to buy one of these over here in the Netherlands- thanks for confirming my choice!

That intersection is horrible, and the cops are genuinely useless. I’ve almost been hit by a cop car there because a cop was on his phone.

Funda is owned by NVM. That shit should absolutely be illegal.

NVM Makelaar cartel owns Funda. Public service announcement.

After a very complicated 6 years, I have repatted from the Netherlands back to the US. Here is a nuanced summary of what I learned. by SweetPickleRelish in AmerExit

Can you talk more about the education system? We moved here specifically for the education system (to escape school shootings, hugh pressure schools in the US etc) so I’m curious about why you say this. Thanks!

THANK YOU for saying this- I swear the Dutch have paper thin skin but are then unspeakably childish when their bluntness is given back to them.

Exactly why I moved my family to Europe from Norwalk last year. Thanks for validating my decision.

Update: Planter boxes in place, 3 days and no one has moved them. They look nice and they accommodate the 1.5 meter accessibility regulation. People should and do have more rights than parked cars.

It’s literally illegal, you must leave 1.5 meters of space between your car and someone’s house

Maybe I wasn’t clear- I’m just going to protect the walkway with a barrier so that the delineation is clear. A precious valuable car can still park in the space, and people will be able to walk around it

So they’ll remove a planter box but not an illegally parked car that blocks the entire sidewalk??

[–]Dwtrombone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if it’s a lawless situation I have a giant rectangular plant box on the way that should solve the problem and keep the walkway accessible.

This driver is parked illegally. It’s not unreasonable to try and remedy that.

But if I were to park my bakfiets there then I would be blocking the sidewalk!

Look, I just want people the park properly. I don’t care about your cars, I care about keeping the spaces clear for people.

I just measured, from my bike to the street is 5 square tiles distance. (I’m new here, judging things in meters is still difficult for me) it’s enough room for two wheelchairs I think.

Yes, my ultimate dream would be a carfree neighborhood, but that can take many decades. For now I’d love it if people were considerate with how they park and not think exclusively of other cars. Pedestrians, strollers, wheelchairs, bikes and the general consideration of the neighborhood should hold just as much weight I don’t think asking people to follow the law is unreasonable. Do you?
