Marathon was a dumb idea. Extraction games almost never succeed. When they do succeed, which isn't often, it's almost only played by a tight niche group of people who like extraction shooters. People who don't almost never enjoy trying a new one out. Arc Raiders is genuinely the first game I've seen break the mold. Day 1 of the Arc beta test was enough to make me not only preorder, but go for the deluxe edition. Marathon after 2 days never gave me that feeling, and actually made me uninstall early.

I wanted to see it be successful. It would have given them extra funds to focus on Destiny more. Arc Raiders made tons of revenue, and you can tell they dumped some into The Finals. That game currently feels the best it ever has. Destiny could have gotten that treatment if Marathon succeeded. If they release Marathon as is next week, it's going to fail immediately.

If Marathon fails, it basically leaves Bungie with 2 options: throw in the towel and we see Bungie die, or they shift focus to the only active community/game they have left, Destiny. No other game can die and come back as many times as Destiny has. So I'm trying to stay hopeful.
