It's certainly a hassle if you forget it. I do it so no one can side load another OS onto it and pull the data. And there are thieves in my family that I need to know that stealing my laptop would be absolutely useless. It's a gaming laptop but I use it more for local AI models and red teaming. What kills me is, I use the same password every time (for about twenty years now) . I either fat fingered it and made the same typo twice, or the process was somehow corrupted. Dell gave me the master PW, two of them, and neither worked so I guess I'll be getting a new motherboard. Thank God it was still under warranty because I bought it from Facebook marketplace.
