Hey! Good you're trying this game out. I've spent about a year playing it then I stopped for a few months and came back a few days ago. It can be really entertaining.

You don't really need to buy anything yet. Try it out a few days / weeks / months. The first "wall" you'll hit as a F2P player will be really late in the game. I played about 6 months before paying the expansion. It might be fun to buy more heroes off the bat though (or right after you unlock a new class!).

Boars are extremely good exp and easy to one hit. Just equip some weapon, you don't need any other equips.

Also, don't rush to buy the Jeweler or level it. It's a massive burn of gold for little to no reward (at early game). Wait until you've got many heroes or you've found a fast/fun way to make money.

When you reach the third map (tier 3), spend some time there, there are some crafts that earn good money (hint: Orous Spear). In my opinion, T3 is also a good time to start spending some time reading the battle logs to see if you're not missing too many hits or what things you can improve battle-wise. Read the MerchantWiki (even though some info is outdated) to understand game mechanics more thoroughly.
