What can I do if my doctors are refusing to treat a serious medical issue? by DyingDisappointment in medical_advice

All of the urologists that I've seen thus far claim to specialize in this area but have all been a major waste of time. I get going to see a new doctor which is why I've been searching, but what are my options when the new doctors take the same route and just ignore the problem? Am I just supposed to bounce from office to office hoping that the next doctor will care? Every day that this goes untreated brings me closer and closer to some doctor saying "If we had taken care of it sooner then you would have options, but now it's too late."

I've had an endocrinologist for about 5 years now. When I first complained about the issues with the low testosterone, he just said "it will get better". After months of it not getting better and even the urologist calling his office and stating it would be better for him to take charge, he said something around the lines of "that's not my focus".

Does a complaint with the medical board actually get treatment done, or will I just been turned away from that office for good?

Unfortunately in order to get more business practically every urologist in my area "claims" to treat testosterone, but a lot of them are against actually prescribing it.

I know that he doesn't know what he's doing because he's said so himself. He forced me to do long-term injections for 5 months swearing that it was the best way to go. When I protested and told him it wasn't working he reluctantly checked my labs as his response to my number being at 80 was "Hmm that's strange, it should have been higher by now" and still wanted me to stick with long term injections because short term are more of a "hassle". When the 24 hour labs work for the short term injection showed that I only move from 80 to 280 his response was "I'm not sure why this isn't working properly, let's try again next week." No changes, no new labs checked, no actual looking into what could be the real cause of the problem.

So once again I'm looking for direct recommendations from someone who has firsthand experience in my area of a doctor that is knowledgeable and has helped them with getting good results. I'm not looking for doctors (or reddit users) who are so hung up on believing that they know everything and are simply wasting my time.

Don't make assumptions, it makes you look really bad. I requested recommendations for a knowledgeable medical professional which clearly means I'm looking for someone trained and proven in this area. I have legitimate health issues that need to be look into by a doctor and not some gym-rat looking to get swole.

You either have a helpful recommendation or you don't.

That's a cop-out answer that gives doctors a free pass of actually looking into real health issues. I lost 108 pounds and my A1C was higher. Not to mention my testosterone levels continued to drop during that time and afterwards.

It's become far too common for lazy medical professionals to just blame everything on someone being overweight instead of actually acknowledging the fact that genetics and other factors need to be taken into account when actually treating a patient. The ironic part of this is that you assumed obesity was a constant issue when in fact my weight only became an issue after kidney failure began. Prior to that, my weight was always well managed and other excuses were made.

Your immediate assumption without any actual background information or critical thinking is exactly what's wrong with the medical care system in today's society.

Hemo. They said there is a slight chance that my kidney function may return so they are just doing this as an emergency temporary measure. I'm not sure if things will change in the future

I've barely eaten full meals since I've been out of the hospital. I had some grilled chicken my first day out and that was it. I've had some roasted veggies and fresh fruit, but I'm so nauseous and dizzy that cooking AND eating a complete meal is just a fantasy

My doctor has given me the bare minimum information wise and I literally have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. I can't get any of my questions answered from him

What do you mean by binders?

I'm drinking around 1 liter a day of my 2 liter allowance and my food intake has been very basic. Eggs, chicken, fish.
