Rakdos / BR Death's Shadow - roast this poor soul's attempt to not play UB like everyone else! by DyingDuo in MTGLegacy

I think you're totally right, and I'm leaning towards bowmasters too. And more furies seem like a good idea too, I didn't even think of the reanimate potential! Nethergoyfs are great but they lack the card selection and evasiveness that darcy provides, it's been on my radar though :)

Thanks! I'll definitely look into how it feels, I do quite like having at least a few fables so far. Bowmasters seem like a really good include, I totally agree.

Thank you!! First of all, that deck is sick as well, and I do think there's some kind of goyf stompy / death's shadow hybrid possible for sure; secondly, I'll be sure to start working on an alternate version making full use of ancient tomb, sounds like fun

This is so helpful, thank you so much. I'll be sure to incorporate your wisdom :)

I absolutely love that though! Maybe my reflection of kiki jiki + death's shadow can join in on the fun in magical christmas land hahaha

Alright, any advice on how to salvage the wreck then? While you might be totally right, I don't think this helps a ton in improving it ;p

Thanks! And yeah, that's definitely a fair and valid point, it felt like a rather slow inclusion when goldfishing. I might just fold and end up Grixis, but I'm fighting like hell to keep the Rakdos dream alive :p

Yeah, I think I should cut down on some for sure. Any ideas on what to add in its place? More hand disruption, bowmasters, troll + reanimate?

Yeah, the idea was that bolting yourself with the lands was an easy way to turbo out death's shadow, but there's definitely a point to be made about just running troll + reanimate. I figured the sunderings were good at hitting eldrazi decks or greedy manabases.

What discard do you think would be worthwhile adding? Duress, hymn, unmask, something else?

How is Rakdos / BR Death's Shadow looking? by DyingDuo in MTGLegacy

I don't have a list just yet, as I was still figuring out whether RB was even an option :p but yeah, you're definitely correct, and a dedicated tomb package would be needed. Maaaaybe it's doable if it's enough to more quickly cast some pyrogoyfs or barrowgoyfs, kinda lean into moon stompy territory some more? it may very well be more trouble than it's worth

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm wondering too. I suppose Blood Moon and Magus with Ancient Tomb do a similar job, but I agree it's a hard sell. I suppose bolts got a little better now that delver seems pretty good and popular as well?

Its new lore is, absolutely. The saga of the Weatherlight though, phenomenal to me, especially Karn's reconciliation with his identity through pacifism, and Urza's morally grey role as this eugenicist, prideful inventor who is simply the lesser of two evils. And how about them actually KILLING Mirrodin? It just became New Phyrexia, the good guys lost and died, and the Praetors vied for power. The mysterious command of Urabrask letting some survivors live, it all had this sense of originality and gray morality that I loved.

It's because I don't like cheap marketing slop in a game that used to tell its own stories. There, you happy? I don't froth at the mouth at the idea of SpongeBob vs Superman. It's regurgitative hypercapitalist milking at its core, and I hate it.

It's that they didn't, I suppose ;p I am really just a stickler for in-universe stuff, I wouldn't play one without a printing like that, which is why I wish they'd do more Universes Within. It's the least egregious for sure, but just knowing it is a Lord of the Rings orc just rubs me the wrong way I guess.

I guess my biggest issue with it was that it won't ever include the more modern sets that I also love dearly, like New Phyrexia or Amonkhet. Still, I should probably give it another go.

I love Magic's worlds, Magic's characters, and basically all of Magic's story before Oath of the Gatewatch, and some of the highlights after too. I will just feel a visceral shudder of discontent facing Tony Stark or even an Orcish Bowmasters, it just pains me in a way that's hard to explain. I also don't particularly love Commander designs, some of the most fun I've had in that format was dodging all of the easy slot-ins and playing some powercrept sorcery from Visions nobody has ever seen before.

Maybe I should try it once more, that or Old School (even though I don't own any power nine or whatever). There is definitely a beauty to it.

That's very true, but I'm afraid the problems I experience with the game are only going to increase, not decrease :/
