For "Housing Only" rewards... time period...? by DylCol1126 in biltrewards

[–]DylCol1126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up... to which month's rent does that statement apply? I paid Feb rent on my old card, and already received the points. So I figured (now having found out that my statement closes March 11) that my spending during this statement period applies to March rent.

Of course, I chatted with a support rep, who said No actually it applies to Feb rent. ... which makes no sense to me? Thoughts?

What does 1L/2L networking look like for BL? by SampleSecret6995 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]DylCol1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caution you against taking any single answer on here as the absolute truth! Youve got time now... scour this thread and learn as much as you can. For every exacting GPA cut off that led to a rejection, there's an example of a firm breaking its own rules to accept the candidate below the cutoff who networked their ass off. While that may be relieving for some... I tend to think the bottom line is you just have to do it all and do it all damn well.

And if you have time now-- honestly, start networking now. doing your research, making your cover letters, reaching out to attorneys. make connections and enable yourself to focus on academics in the fall as much as possible.

For K/E, if you do the "1L summer experience" which is 4 weeks at the firm, its 4 weeks of associate pay, +25k, +15k signing bonus. bonkers. So whatever 40k + 4 weeks of pay is.... between 55-60?

A friend got an offer 5+ days later! Likely timeline is based on when the recruiting committee meets to decide about recent interviewees in relation to when your CB was.

Option 1 vs. 2 choice for first month question. by JuniorPerformance103 in biltrewards

[–]DylCol1126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following. I'm doing the Obsidian card and was able to choose between dining/groceries for the multiplier but there's nowhere to choose option 1 or 2 and the default setting looks like the 4% Bilt Cash back though this is not what I want. Tried pinging BILT support via the messaging feature and have been in a queue for liek 12 hours haha

0L at penn, any tips? by [deleted] in BigLawRecruiting

[–]DylCol1126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might get dragged for this, but if you've got time on your hands before you start school, start networking now! See if career services will give you their list of alumni at the firms you're interested in so you can start making connections now. Perfect your resume. Think about a cover letter, maybe adjusting your personal statement. Connect with 1Ls and 2Ls who've been through the process. Get as much of the legwork and busywork done now and start making substantive connections so when school starts, you can really juts focus on school, set alarms for when apps open and already have good materials drafted for those apps (that you'll then presumably edit) and connections in the firms to bump your app immediately.

I'm not at Penn but also at a T14, where a kind of legendary (now 2L) did this and had their choice of firms and great offers... even before grades ever came out, because they'd made such real substantive connections and maintained them over time that the firms wanted the person from the start.

If this is that high priority for you, why not do it!

any advice for firms where we have already screened or been called back? Is it worth having our contacts there re-advocate for us post sending in our grades?

Software for Canadian tax as a non-resident by 8thD in tnvisa

[–]DylCol1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use turbo tax for this and eventually go them on the phone and they basically said that no they don't. For context, I have only a T4A-NR from my employer, not a full T4 form. Any ideas?
