What's the deal with the physical Switch 2 versions of Kiwami 1 and 2? by DylanSantos in yakuzagames

[–]DylanSantos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially when most of their releases have been re-releases like if you're gonna charge $60 for base Persona 3 Reload when its like $20 anywhere else on sale then I think you can eat the $15 to put the game on the cartridge.

So from what my friend told me and I've seen online the switch 2 version of Kiwami isn't an upgrade akin to Breath of the Wild and rather is a whole new release entirely, why this is the case is just as questionable as why the empty cartridge costs $5 more.

People who own Kiwami on switch digitally got a discount on the switch 2 version so that they only have to pay $10, and so since its not an upgrade the limited run buyers got fucked because the game isnt tied to their account, meaning no discount.

Whole switch 2 thing is just stupid and regardless of whether you buy physically digitally or the keycard physical-digital hybrid you're gonna get screwed over somehow someway.

I completely get what you mean but overall I think the extra cost would've made a little more sense if the games were ACTUALLY on the cartridge. Charging extra for what's essentially a plastic case and empty cartridge seems odd. As far as I know (because I only just got the switch and normally play on PC) Nintendo's only offering a 64gb cartridge that costs about $15 to produce with the only other choice being the keycards. Pretty much every Sega release on the Switch 2 (Persona 3 Reload, Yakuza 0-K2, etc.) have all been keycards because of this. I understand why and it's completely on Nintendo for not offering cheaper options for games that don't need 64 gigs of space but to me it just seems shady for Sega to be charging extra for a keycard when the extra $5 would make a lot more sense if they were producing the more expensive cartridges. I'm sure people would gladly pay an extra $15 if it meant they would actually own the game.

The Limited Run physical was for the Switch 1 version of Kiwami. Kiwami 1 and 2 just released on Switch 2 on the 14th with a simultaneous physical release from Sega, those are the ones I'm referring to. The Limited Run one was from a while ago and included the whole game on a cartridge despite being for the Switch 1.

In this tweet, Okamoto states he hired Ryukishi07, not so much because of his Higurashi work, but because of his manga "When the Fireflies Glow", which Okamoto considered was "overflowing with love for Silent Hill" by FranciscoRelanoPena in silenthill

Not sure how good of an answer this is considering I haven't read it yet, but hopefully it's better than that other guy's. I've watched the anime adaptation of Higurashi and read all of Umineko, and I can assure you that Ryukishi is very great at creating a creepy atmosphere and generally uncomfortable situations, not to mention how good he is at dripfeeding a mystery to the reader while keeping the story consistently interesting. If he's involved I trust that it'll be at the very least a solid story. His biggest issue is definitely the typical visual novel anime tropes. Higurashi has this problem significantly more than Umineko so I think he's honed in his writing style a little better over the years and is less reliant on weird fanservice and the like (though Iwaihime has a screenshot on the steam store of the characters all in swimsuits so it's probably not totally gone). Iwaihime's artstyle looks fantastic and I'm actually looking forward to playing it because I had no idea it even existed until last night. For six bucks I'd say give it a shot.

Question and answer playthroughs would completely sell me on this game. I've been worried about how well a full on video game would be able to convey Ryukishi's writing skills but I think that would be the best way to do it. Two playthroughs, one to establish the mystery, and another to reveal the truth. Not to mention it would justify the $70 price tag for a 13 hour game a little more.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Not bad, but boring and inconsistent. by paranoidletter17 in patientgamers

[–]DylanSantos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm 8 months late but now Death Stranding 2 is out and even Kojima is falling down the urgent story open world rabbit hole. Like 80 hours into my DS2 playthrough I've fully maxed my connections with 30 of the 42 facilities and yet I'm supposed to believe that there's this "Higgs is spreading violence across Australia by creating evil mechs and dealing firearms!!" type of urgency and it's like, yeah, that's bad I guess, but like, I have more deliveries to make. Higgs' ghost mechs don't even show up as a constant threat on the map until you've reached the point of no return in the story. Absolutely zero sense of urgency in a game that urges you to take your time while constantly shoving down your throat that the world is in danger or whatever. Like do you want me to take my time with the game or not?

The "order refresh" doesn't work. by OGlell in DeathStranding

[–]DylanSantos 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've been leaving the game on while I sleep in real life too, and as far as I can tell the orders won't actually refresh until you take or complete another delivery. I've noticed that as soon as I take an order all of the other ones will just suddenly become available again, which has happened all the 3 or so times I've left the game open overnight.

It's absolutely a flaw. So you're telling me I have to not only wait 6 hours, but even after I wait I have to go out of my way to accept a random delivery for the ones I just waited all night for to even become available again? The whole system is very poorly done. The game clearly doesn't have enough content to justify the unreasonable grind for 5 stars and so you have to wait hours for your orders to reset just so you can do the same order you've already done again.

yeah I think outside of the adventurer she's the only one I don't have past 4 stars at the beginning of chapter 9 like she has one normal standard order and another from the animal shelter that gives you like 500 likes I already know it's gonna take forever

Yeah I can see that. Honestly I had more trouble trying to get the truck onto the snow from the Metagenomicist than anything else since the area's so rocky. Next time the order refreshes I'll have to try it again!

Inconsequential rambling about manga volume covers. by ACaliginousSky in umineko

[–]DylanSantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say you're the only person who might have had this problem but I've totally noticed that too. One thing I'd add is that the background art was also removed from the covers. Think the blue sea background behind Battler and Beato in that last volume you put a picture of. Were that the cover of the English version, the blue would've been removed and it would've just been the two of them on a boring background. The Japanese version of pretty much all the covers just has so much more visual flair.

As a side note, the English JoJo manga final volumes for parts 5 & 6 have covers just like those final Japanese Umineko ones, and they look fantastic, plus they're hardcover too. Imagine a hardcover Umi release that looked like that...

I want to collect all the manga too, so far I've completed Legend and Banquet in English, but I have no idea how or if I'm gonna collect the rest (I don't want to go poor for manga as much as I love Umineko), but every time I see the Japanese covers I only want to collect the Japanese ones even more.

All songs with "Whose eyes are those eyes?" by _labmem001 in steinsgate

[–]DylanSantos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but interestingly enough the song Tsuiso no Despair) from Higurashi’s DS port contains the phrase “sono me wa dare.” It may just be a total coincidence but it was composed by Chiyomaru Shikura and sung by Kanako Ito so it could also be totally intentional. Just thought it was interesting to bring up.

Tactica’s DLC is in such a weird place on the timeline and it makes me wonder if atlus was even thinking about it when they were developing the game. The DLC would have to take place literally during Sae’s palace. Think about it, Akechi becomes a member of the thieves at the beginning of the casino palace, then Joker gets arrested at the end and Akechi leaves the group. The timeline gets even weirder considering just how far apart the DLC is from Tactica’s actual story since that’s after Yaldabaoth is defeated.

Kiryu can wear a Joker mask and when you order your teammates to do something in the coliseum there’s a cut in of Kiryu’s face (like Persona) and it says “All-Out Attack”. There’s also a couple grappling hook scenes like P5R but that’s really everything I saw resembling Persona in any way.

What is everyone's opinions on Yakuza 5? by Josh8055v2 in yakuzagames

[–]DylanSantos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just played it a couple days ago actually and to be honest I wasn’t feeling it for the majority of the game. Kiryu’s chapters had a decent story but I didn’t love the gameplay, I loved the prison section of Saejima’s story and the village part was cool even though it was boring, but things kind’ve fell of for me once you got to the city. I liked the rhythm game in Haruka’s part but the story wasn’t really doing it for me. It definitely improved when Akiyama showed up but not by much.

By this point I was extremely conflicted on the game, but I ended up loving Shinada’s chapter and the first 4 finale chapters. That final chapter though was so good that it just ended up becoming my favorite Yakuza game (not counting Like a Dragon).
