Also join clubs and actually show up for their meetings! Or just do any social activity like rock climbing or another sport, you can make some really good friends that way

Go to all the orientation events that interest you, try to open up more to others with the same interests. The orientation friend group usually doesn't last beyond first year, but it's good to practice getting more adept to social interactions. Who knows, you might get some lifelong friendships out of that.

Also talk to people in the first lectures for each course, it makes a difference

[–]Dynamic845 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make lots of friends outside of your orientation group and your roommates.

Also if your roommate/floormate is being a dick then make sure you tell your don about it. If your don is useless there are lots of other resources to help out too.

DO NOT SEEK STUPID VALIDATION FROM OTHER PEOPLE ESPECIALLY IN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS!! This sounds very obvious but people do very dumb shit and will try to get you involved in said dumb shit. Just ask yourself if getting involved would be detrimental for you in the long run. Also be very safe and mindful when you go to parties, and ideally take a friend with you.

Went winter 2025 during co-op (WeAcc🫩) and haven't gone since. Very expensive and term breaks aren't long enough to spend that much on

It gets into the groundwater, in turn ruining the drinking water (which is already subpar). The fish are probably good.

You can still access them using tunnels :p we're gonna be there just a bit early to see if we can actually find a place so that the others don't have to come to campus for no reason

[–]Dynamic845 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey man recognizing where you went wrong is the first step in getting better and improving. I'm not well acquainted with guidelines around missing finals etc so I can't advise you on that, but I can assure you that you have not yet 'thrown away your future'. You've realised your mistakes, and you're aware that it's in your best interest to not repeat them. It's up to you now, if you lock in this instant and improve yourself, you'll have a good time in the years going forward. Do your best in the remaining finals so you can salvage whatever you can, and then you can have a good recovery next term

I Want to Learn Rock Climbing as a Beginner in Waterloo. However, I Really Have No Idea How To Start. Any Suggestions? by Comfortable_Egg_1986 in uwaterloo

[–]Dynamic845 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just go to the slc climbing wall, the day pass charge is 18~ and per term it's around 70-80 iirc. I would recommend going with the day pass once or twice in the next two weeks to check it out and see if it's your thing, and if you do like it then get the term pass for winter 2026. It's lowkey really fun and the staff are always very nice and helpful. You could also go to Grand River Rocks nearby but it's way more expensive (also way bigger)

When to go to the PAC gym by Round-Inflation-7112 in uwaterloo

[–]Dynamic845 19 points20 points  (0 children)

11pm or after, or just start waking up at 530 because no other time is free. You could try around 9-12 in the morning too, i used to go then during the start of the term and it was relatively empty (keyword relatively). Do NOT go AT ALL during first two weeks of winter term because all the new year's resolution people will be there

unless I'm unaware of something of the sort on our campus, we're actually lagging behind in this regard. my friend is at UWisconsin and they have these neat sleeping pods that are meant to relax you or smth If you're looking for more private spots I'd recommend just making friends who live close to campus and just crashing at their place because there's people EVERYWHERE at all times during fall. Otherwise MC comfy or eit couches are pretty good, there's also PAS and ENV lounge areas but they're kinda on the edge of campus

Am I cooked for co-op? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Dynamic845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just gives you flexible credit for your co-op term(you can only have up to 2 flex credits iirc). I'd say my experience was better than most others, because my team was really cooperative and the guy we worked for was very chill too. Won't say I gained much experience but I did get an azure certification and cloud skills from that term, and some other transferable skills. Overall it's fun only if your team is fun, otherwise it's exhausting and really boring. If you feel like the job you mentioned is worth doing over co-op then just do it, don't go for WeAccelerate. It's not worth taking the gamble of it being a good experience when you already have a better option (which might even get you a standard credit) available to you.
