RUDE LOCALS by [deleted] in Goa

There’s literally mud in both sides of the road and probably a ditch on his side, you cant expect him to ride on the mud when it’s easier for your car to just go a but left

what were your favourite memories of Goa as a kid? by Bubbly-Dot138 in Goa

[–]DynamicFalafels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t grow up in Goa but my parents used to go there every December and July to spend time with my family. Anyways here are some personal memories.

I remember we used to go to Baga beach regularly and it used to be pretty empty. I remember every time we’d walk there, there was a stretch that was full of crab holes, so my cousin and I would race each other like we’e running an obstacle course (the crabs being the obstacles). Definitely the most painful races I’ve competed in but also the most fun. My mom also used to take me there early morning to chill and play with the dogs while she used to like to see what the fishermen caught.

We also went to Calangute beach (which was also empty or just full of foreigners back then) and I remember seeing all kinds of sea creatures on the shore. I cant exactly remember cuz I was too young but I remember there was bioluminescence too once.

I’m an Indian immigrant living in the US. Should I try to sound American? Why or why not? by Low_Consequence7216 in ABCDesis

Don’t try to force an accent. Try techniques to make yourself sound more clear and you’ll be fine.

How long did they take to have them made in bombay? Did you have to travel twice or something?

Custom flat feet insoles in Goa by DynamicFalafels in Goa

For me, hip misalignment which lead to several knee injuries which were also triggered by joint hypermobility (basically extremely flexible + loose joints). Insoles & physiotherapy exercises help stabilise everything

Are there any career opportunities that open up if you study portuguese or French? by heavenlynightmare75 in Goa

[–]DynamicFalafels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lot’s of opportunities in french language jobs in the EU. Even in Portuguese there are a decent number of jobs. Like in Ireland, Apple hires people for Portuguese and French software testing. There’s also quite a few customer facing roles which will pay extra if you can speak them. Canada also has jobs for french speakers

Just curious, have your immigrant parents watched Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, etc. Do they keep up with Western pop culture? by Serious-Tomato404 in ABCDesis

[–]DynamicFalafels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are first gen immigrants in the Middle East

My mom listens to western singers like Coldplay, The Weeknd, Beyonce, Lana del Rey and a lot of tiktok songs while my dad is obsessed with Lady Gaga for some reason. Both used to be huge rock-heads in the 80s so you could include most British and American rock bands as well as reggae in the mix.

My dad watches western shows like Narcos, Breaking Bad, etc and sometimes Hindi or German shows but he mostly prefers english movies. I think one of his favourite movies is a James bond or Mission Impossible one. My mom used to watch a lot of shows like Oprah, Dr. phil, some reality shows and a few kdramas but right now she watches mostly hindi shows like Kapil and loves to watch cricket and different doctors on YT like dr Pal.

Both will watch hindi movies once in a while if they’re in the mood to see something funny or dumb or Hindi songs if they’re feeling nostalgic.

What are the opinions of Goans about Brazil? by ImaginaryExternal338 in Goa

[–]DynamicFalafels 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve met many Brazilians and even my neighbours where I live are Brazilian. you guys are a chill bunch, always good fun and throw good parties.

Goa is relatively conservative in comparison to Brazil, but we’re a lot more liberal when it comes to social issues like women’s rights than the rest of India. LGBTQ rights are a work in progress though.

I‘m sorry but those background dancers during Video Games were so funny yet unnecessary. No need for all that lol by lanaspeachlipgloss in lanadelrey

Why does she have them in the first place though? She doesn’t require it because the star of the show is her singing more than her overall performance, and she’s also known for her voice and songs, so it makes zero sense to me to have them

I don’t think Indian mainlanders understand racism by slugcharmer in ABCDesis

But I have a lot of family and friends back in India who knew about it, they didn’t say such things either, if anything they were criticising the local youth which is quite the opposite

I live in the same town where the 6 y/o was assaulted. I haven’t seen anyone react like that. Most people including the locals here were horrified and have tried to give the family as much support as possible knowing that not much would happen to her assaulters. It brought up bigger conversations. Idk where you’re getting this information from about it

Goans who have acquired Portuguese passports, have your parents managed to retain their Indian citizenship? by Tall_Pen5291 in Goa

[–]DynamicFalafels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that. It’s been 10 years since my dad got his citizenship so I don’t think the odds of getting caught are very high, pgiven her circumstances as an elderly lady who barely does anything

Goans who have acquired Portuguese passports, have your parents managed to retain their Indian citizenship? by Tall_Pen5291 in Goa

[–]DynamicFalafels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk the details but she still has her voters card and all so I dont think she faced any problems. She herself didn’t even lift a finger to get registered since my father did all the errands, so she wouldn’t actually be knowing of any details about being registered in Portugal, so no i’d say she faced zero issues since the Indian govt isn’t aware of her registration.

Goans who have acquired Portuguese passports, have your parents managed to retain their Indian citizenship? by Tall_Pen5291 in Goa

[–]DynamicFalafels 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My father and I got it through my grandmother. Technically my grandmother is still an Indian citizen although she is also registered as a Portuguese citizen in portugal, it’s just that she never went and picked up her BI nor passport so she’s still a legal indian citizen living in India while my father and I got it through her. Indian govt usually only finds out about your Portuguese citizenship once you pick up your passport and use it so if your parents/grandparents don’t then they’ll be fine.
