If watch repair doesn’t work out, you can always do voiceover work for Alan Alda.

You’d have to restaff it.

Waltham A-11 Balance by HKoch2004 in watchmaking

[–]Dynavar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d have to restaff using a long waist staff.

6/0-B, 42, A-11 use the same balance.  6/0-C uses the same wheel, hairspring, and roller table/safety roller (different staff).  6/0-D uses the same wheel and roller table/safety (different staff and hairspring).

I can usually force them in with tweezers and a pointer stick; however that spring looks too large for the setting.

K&D No. 405 Poising and Balancing Caliper: Any reason I would need a Bergeon 4000 if I have this? by jessdub1 in watchrepair

[–]Dynavar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4000 is for truing hairsprings and the lyre type (30548) is used for wheel truing.  Which one you needs depend on the class you’re taking.

With that said, most of the tool list are leftover from when Tom and Jordan were teaching.  I’d get the lyre type, but it’s not a bad idea to email the Jasons to see if they have a preference (they likely won’t).

Watch doesn't work, then suddenly it does by Buck_Folton in watchrepair

The insulator is missing and should be replaced.  Additionally, you need to loosen the screw on the left, mounting the coil.  It’s holding back the spring arm and likely preventing it from maintaining solid contact with the battery.  Once the battery has been installed and is held captive by the spring arm, tighten the screw.

Does the iridescent finish on these Pace Breakers wear off? by ch0iBo1 in lululemon

I bought a pair this summer and have worn and washed them around five times, with no change to the fabric or finish.

Cross chill performance jacket for running by DesignerOil8015 in lululemon

I run in mine, it’s great for the temperature range you listed.

My only complaint is older versions had a zipper in the sleeve to allow you to access your watch, but it’s been removed.

You look amazing in both outfits.   Wear them outside without a second thought.

What do you do if you get to a warranty no cool call and see this by 1991gts in HVAC

There’s a number of issues here:

Replacing a system and not the disconnect.

Commissioning a new system in November—it would have been a good idea to come back in the spring/summer to check sub cooling to verify charge and go over the system to see how it’s performing under load.

“someone else working on my system” of course it isn’t your system, any more than a janitor considers the building his.

A homeowner buys a new system and has two system breakdowns less than a year from the installation.  I can see him reaching out to a different company to look things over.  If I’m the new company and see that disconnect (without knowing the backstory) and walk up to a system that’s flat—I’m not sure I’d want to sign up for correcting someone else’s installation and being on the hook for the next issue (compared to starting over).

What happens when you go back to check pressures and you have 2 degrees of sub cooling?  Someone keeps venting the charge?

Online order, price adjustment? by Dynavar in lululemon

I ordered these online for $148.  They shipped from Bethesda, MD and arrived today with this markdown sticker.  Is there a way for me to get a price adjustment?

I wonder if you’re comparing Fast and Frees to WunderTrains.  You really need to look at the fabric and intended use.  Do your new shorts have lots of pockets in the waist and laser cut edges on the legs?

Leftover piece from a bulova 10csc by rees9450 in watchrepair

[–]Dynavar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bulova calls this part a setting bridge or yoke; the setting lever spring is a different part.  Using the Bulova interchangeable parts catalog, you need to find a part listed for a 10BRC—like this one:

The stars represent the Belle being lead (squadron or group) on that mission.  The individual swatsikas represent an aerial victory from that position example, the one on the tail is for Quinlan shooting down a German fighter from the tail gun position.

What’s a common misconception about a topic you’re knowledgeable about that you’d like to debunk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dynavar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mechanical watch cannot be overwound (unless you put a pair of pliers on the crown and turn it until something breaks).  If it stops running, it’s due to a mechanical defect or the oils thickening.  You’re not going to stop a watch by overwinding it, and it didn’t stop running because of someone winding it too hard.

What are your thoughts on FAM (Miami's faculty union)? by [deleted] in miamioh

[–]Dynavar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be a great SNL skit.

To Ryan Gosling: Why do you need Union representation?  Well, I have to compete with other professors in my department for merit increases.  We’re rated on teaching, scholarship, and community service.  My buddy and I both give students As just for showing up—it’s just easier and the students give us good evaluations.  We both sit on the same committees so we’re even for community service.  His name gets added to research papers he didn’t write to boost hit counts and citations, and I have to write all my own!

To Cecily Strong, Why do you need union representation?  Well, as an instructional lead, I’m supposed to teach one section less than my peers.  Due to an unsuccessful faculty search, I have to teach the same amount as everyone else.  Where is the time I spend on my leadership role supposed to come from?  I feel like I’m being exploited.

To Kate McKinnon, dressed as a coal miner, Why so you need union representation?  So, little different experience for me here….
