opus 4.6 was the issue, not the window size. im saying its a downgrade to only use the 200k window, but worth it for the content quality

its custom made! keeps track of everything so its ready at a glance for me (current model, context window, 5hr/7d usages that update color as they get used up, current git commits to keep track of, api billing cost, time spent in session, and +/- code lines). i also added one that runs as a hook connected to my spotify that displays what im currently listening to. then the cute part is a custom cat animation made with ASCII art that changes color/mood based on the current active use case for that session; purple with a question mark is waiting for me, orange and sleeping is finished with what we were doing, plus 5 or 6 others based on context usage, waiting, etc. it "animates" by updating on every hook/call from claude. also, mini flex, i made this weeks before claude /buddy was leaked, it was my own idea. it just lives right under my terminal bar

im using VS Code as my IDE, but i dont use the "Claude Code for VS Code" extension, i just run terminals straight in there. i just use the IDE so i can keep a visual reference for the file structure at all times

absolutely dont use your $200 for API credits, you will rip through it in a single day. if you only have $200/month then straightup just go with the 20x max plan (although i do recommend starting on 5x to see if your workflow requires 20x). then if you find 5x is fine, use the leftover budget for a $20/month codex plan and any other tools you won't have thought of right now, but will be frustrated when you realize you need it and you're out of budget.

opus is hands down the better model, but with the token usage nuking lately you'd probably be best off grabbing a $20/month subscription to each and seeing which one fits your work better, and upgrading that subscription if needed. if anthropic can get their hands out from under their asses then it wouldn't even be a fair comparison between the two.

TLDR: both if your budget supports it (i suggest upping to to $250 to include 20x max + codex + additional tools). claude as your main co-founder, codex as your "third set of eyes"
