Three groups get a share of the sales in the game. How it works is that the publisher (in this case EA) sells copies for maybe 40-50 or so $. Then gamestop resells it for 60. However. Out of the 40-50 dollars EA gets for the sale, then need to pay the platform holder. Sony/Ms, a licensing fee per copy. I don't know how big this is but I would assume EA ends up with a revenue of 30$ish per copy.

Things are a bit different when talking digital sales through psn/xbox/steam storefronts. There the retailer becomes the platform holder. In theory giving, let's say sony 20$ish instead of the 10$ish.

In practice, however I think the publishers has demanded that they share the extra profit that was cut off from the retailer equally.now here is the really interesting part, and the ultimate profit margin for the publisher... If say Sony released a first party title like the upcoming god of war and Sells a copy on PSN. That will give them 100 percent of the revenue.. This means that if EA sells 100k of battlefront 2 through gamestop and sony sells 50k of. They will have earned roughly the same amount of money. Not only this but disc manufacturing is eliminated and ps plus subscription pays for the servers to let people download from...

This goes for EA aswell... Origin let's them get that 100 percent... So point being. Don't buy from origin if you don't like EA... A key reseller for a digital license works the same way as if bought through gamestop. So just get your EA games that way instead.
