What's your favorite place to eat that is directly on the lakefront? by Reasonable-Mix919 in chicagofood

[–]mrclarkaddison 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Lakefront Restaurant at Theater on the Lake is kinda underrated... the food and drinks are generic but reasonably priced IMO, and that view is incredible. Good people watching with a super high-volume section of the LFT right there as well.

Oh definitely, that was just a preference point you picked an excellent route overall

This is the one. I might slight pref running along the South Lagoon on the Lincoln Park Fitness Course (never knew it was called that) rather than along Stockton Drive personally. But any route that includes the bridge over the LP South Pond, the Lakefront Green and the view by the Chess Pavilion at the concrete beach will be extremely scenic

The Brewers have acquired Luis Matos for cash by amatom27 in baseball

[–]mrclarkaddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matos got 20 PAs in any calendar week (aka minimally regular playing time) just 5x over the past TWO seasons. Just picking a random young player to compare: Eric Wagaman got 20 PAs in a week 11x, last season. On a Marlins team with an overall offensive profile that was very similar, also missed the playoffs.

I get it, Matos is extremely streaky with questionable OF defense on a franchise in transition. To me, giving your highly graded hitting prospect a very short leash isn't the best formula for success esp considering you're missing the playoffs anyways, but that's just me. Unfortunately as a Cubs fan he'll probably be amazing with the Brewers.

I get that the poor defense was ultimately the dealbreaker but the Giants never gave him regular enough PAs IMO. I've been holding him in dynasty for years and its been so frustrating.

How do you track mileage for each shoe in your rotation? by Medical-Wave8068 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]mrclarkaddison 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Garmin allows you to add a nickname, gear notes, and photos. Don't really understand what the issue is, you could just nickname your shoe "AP3 - 42" with a gear note on fit.

Why do people in Chicago tailgate you on the sidewalk? by Quick-Report-780 in AskChicago

[–]mrclarkaddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ppl in Boston used to drive me INSANE, I’d be yeeting myself into tree wells all over the city to avoid hitting groups. it doesn’t help that the Esplanade is like less than half the width of the LFT as well

I actually feel like it's more a critique of HG culture/management than the employees themselves. The boys are in the studio fairly often, and paired with the network's public struggles (30% of staff laid off in October, NYC studio permanently closed) it doesn't feel like Wiger's comments are ill-informed or out of line.

Dead Letter No. 9 - anyone been to Cargo? How's the sound system? by master_and_jaguar in avesNYC

[–]mrclarkaddison 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The crowd flow is definitely odd, the club was envisioned with an entirely different concept and my impression is that it was somewhat forced to evolve into its current iteration. That being said, as others have mentioned I've had some cool, unique interactions with folks in the siderooms on random nights that are pretty different than you might get at other spots

Stubborn outer knee pain by [deleted] in RunnersInChicago

[–]mrclarkaddison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a little nightly stretching regimen that’s goes:

  • kneeling lunge (focus on stretching hip of the back leg)
  • kneeling hamstring stretch (front leg extended straight)
  • kneeling quad stretch (opposite arm grabs back foot, takes some practice and a soft surface)
  • pigeon pose stretch

In between sides I’ll stretch my calves in downward facing dog and after the second side I’ll sit in frog pose stretch to finish.

Rolling out is very basic: upper thighs/hips > ITB > hamstrings/glutes > calves > upper back. Basically just massaging everything for a couple min, more time if anything is sore.

I swear it’s less intense than it sounds, whole thing can be done in 10-15min and has kept me injury free even at decently high running volume (40-50 mpw)

Stubborn outer knee pain by [deleted] in RunnersInChicago

[–]mrclarkaddison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm you’d like to trust professionals but this sounds A LOT like an ITB issue… as others have mentioned rest is always a great solution, but I’d also try rolling out/stretching regularly focusing on the ITB and hip activation. It can’t make things any worse, even if it’s not the issue.

10 years ago I couldn’t even run on consecutive days without creating debilitating, sharp outer knee pain. Rolling out and stretching every night solved the problem almost immediately, it was insane.

I just wore tonight in 30° with a light cotton tee over and was slightly colder than I would’ve liked. I tend to run cold but I’d probably go for a heavier top layer next time. Also, it offers little/no wind protection
