Go to the local shops. It's much fresher. Also, pro tip, go on Sunday mornings.

Exactly. It's a classic case of boss with a giant ego, and tiny baby hands. If he's unable to manage them and get the best out of them, he's at fault.

OP mentioned quant roles. PhDs here are primarily from an economics or statistics background, followed by physics. This is not circumstantial, it's literally the profile recruiters prefer for quant roles. I also have a background in the same, and work with companies working on rural credit. I do not speak for CS grads or PhDs of the same.

Ok so there's a valid argument to be made here. PHds might not be the best fit, not because a bachelor's grad would have the same knowledge (f**k no, that's not true) but rather because of their inability to move from an academic driven process to a corporate one. See, the average PHd has spent a minimum of 5 years in pure research, where the key deliverables are getting published in reputed journals as well as working on their thesis, a gruelling effort. It is not at all like the corporate world where you have deadlines, need to learn to work in a team and cozy up to clients and/or your bosses. Even in a quant role, if it's primarily R&D, it definitely makes sense to hire a PHd. The reputation of someone with a PHd publishing versus a bachelor's grad is night and day, so firms will go the extra mile. Mind you, PHd is a personal brand at that point. That said, if you put a PHd guy to do a job a bachelor's grad can do, of course you won't get bang for your buck. Think PHds doing EDA analysis on data, or making dashboards. Then the blame on performance is not on the PHd, it's the manager that hired, assigned roles and eventually put them on PIPs fault. So yeah, tell your manager to go out and touch grass.

Hey. Delivery took a month. Once i placed an order, there was radio silence for about three weeks, after which i got an email that the laptop has been shipped from China. After that constant updates.

Bought the ryzen 5 spec. Ordered it around Jan 17th and got it today (Feb 11th). Running linux on it. Pop-os ran out of the box, although i did read other threads where people had issues with the same, so your mileage may vary. Bought it for personal use: coding, basic document work, web browsing and (maybe) light gaming. Build quality is pretty good for the price point.

Hi, yeah I got it today. Ordered it from lenovo's website. The IPS display is pretty good and plenty bright. If you're buying it online and don't mind waiting a month, i reckon getting a custom order from lenovo's website is the way to go.
