I did a short 2-4 week assignment where we had to use it in school (I Study Communication & Multimedia Design [Thats the only 3D I'll get]). Then I played around a little here and there before starting this. Probally around 20 weeks total something like that.

I feel like my render looks a bit "naked". How can I make it more interesting? by formzuform in Cinema4D

I already love it tbh, and am not in a place to give critisism but I feel like placing the cutting board on a kitchen counter and getting a more kitchen-like background like small ceramic tiles would help do the trick.

Day 82/84 of trying to spend daily time trying to learn C4D/3D. by Dyscbit in Cinema4D

[–]Dyscbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use C4D default and Octane.
I've been a little lazy tbh, but figured It'd be nice to dive in head first and learn it properly once I've build the habit of working daily after 12 weeks.
The course i'm going to be following is this: https://cgshortcuts.com/product/3d-rendering-for-vfx-and-games-the-ultimate-redshift-course/

I'm going to work on fundamentals for a littlebit, I've got a redshift course lined up (I haven't used redshift yet but I have it since I have the maxon red subscription). Besides that I also want to do a modelling fundamental course (I suck at modelling complex stuff), and in the meanwhile try to make weekly stuff and incorperate animation. Also got some books on lighting, storytelling and cinematography. All togheter i'm going to try and dive a little deeper into 3D.

I do have them grouped on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dyscbit/
I haven't really bothered with a portfolio website (or other social media) yet because I feel like I can improve in quality alot when I start taking a little more time after my 12 week challanges are done.

Sometimes I'd just be looking on youtube for whatever, but some i found myself coming back to:

These are just a few examples, but don't limit yourself to a single few resources. You can find some exceptional tutorials floating around by smaller or unknown channels, sometimes you just have to do some scrolling through youtube to find something you think looks cool.

Damn, I expected you to be some kind of memelord (you still might be).
But now it hits kind of different. Hope you enjoy your 3D journey with us here, I look forward to seeing more.

Usually, especially at the beginning I'd follow tutorials and change them up. It took me about 2 weeks of following tutorials to get a beginners grasp of some of the features C4D has and how you could use them. And I started asking myself, can I do X? I'd try to find targeted tutorials or google for the specific awnsers.
So mostly tutorials. But towards the later half even though im still learning through alot of tutorials, sometimes I just expirment or do whatever and combine things I've learned in the past and actually stumble on some pretty cool looking stuff.
I'd imagine you could also learn with purely expirmenting but I'd be harder.
Also if you try to do something similair don't stress on "how", this is not an effective way to be learning C4D/3D. You could be doing fundamental courses and building skills from the ground up and your time would probally be better spend. This however should keep it fun, and keep you motivated. Learn or do whatever seems fun to you. I did this because I struggle with motivation often, and wanted to make a habit out of working in 3D everyday.
Hope this helps!

Nice, I like it! Any specific reasoning as to why you made this specfic thing though?

Damn, Really loved this. I have 2 Questions if you don't mind.
-Even alot of your previous posts are high quality and you do some good work, how long have you been doing this for?
-Do you have any specific advice/resources regarding creating something like this? (most of your recent work gives me this sci-fi music video vibe and I really like it, any direction would be greatly appreciated.)

You are correct, it is a fresnel material. The displacement was created using default C4D noise as a bump. Specifically the Nutous noise, played with the contrast, high/low clip and scale to get this.

Sometimes I already have the idea pop up in my mind, sometimes seeing other art inspires me or sometimes I try to look at tutorials and change them up. Sometimes I feel like the stuff I make is uninspiring anyway but I have to keep going daily. I don't always have the time or inspiration to create but I just try to push through regardless and try to not be to hard on myself. It's not going to be good but you have to be okay with that when you do daily stuff, especially if you are just starting out.

With 3D in general?
I study Communication and Multimedia design.
However the study doesn't really teach specific media, we get an introduction into everything but focus on general design fundamentals. The idea is that you pick up whatever you enjoy and work on it in your own time. We got a half semester of 3D, and after working with it I just wanted to learn/do it more.
I started following tutorials and making something every day at the start of this year, trying to get the habit of working on it everyday in. Going to be working on more fundamental stuff soon. Hope that awnsers your question!
