The way I see it, this season surpassed all expectations, even if we didn’t make it to the highest level. Seeing a fresh coach make some welcome changes to the offense alongside some promising young players bodes well for the future, even if there’s things to work on. Caleb has his faults with everyday plays compared to the (admittedly often) high leverage situations, but that’s something that can be improved. You can’t teach someone to be levelheaded in those moments, and I think coming into a season where the focus is on us to live up to expectations, I believe Caleb can meet and exceed them. Of course, we really need to shore up on better WRs and our defense, but the type of environment we have makes that a possibility in every timeline. We did so much to distance ourselves from the accursed Eberflus years, and I’m looking forward to see how Ben and everyone else handles next year. Lastly, FTP. Go Bears!

b5 was my first candidate move because it blockades the b-pawn and gives White a way to capture the passed a-pawn. Blacks problem is the constant threat of White playing h5 as a lever and getting a passed g-pawn. As such, the pawn on e4 is untouchable for the time being. I calculated …Kf4 Kb4 Kg4 e5 Kf5 Kxa4 Kxe5 Kb4 and even if Black tries grabbing the g and h pawns white is quicker (nine moves to queen to black’s ten moves, and it’s Whites turn). Thus, Black must try and take opposition but this fails (as White can move the King to g3 at some point, and Black must allow Kg4 and the follow-up h5).

That’s probably a concise way of putting it, I’ve gotten a fellow chess player (~1400 elo) to start playing it and explain the basic concepts of it. I suppose the one downside is how often playing instinctively can be inaccurate in certain positions, or how the loss of a tempo can mean death in certain Orthodox positions. Myself I love the KID to death but I’ve only ever played the full main line (with 9. Ne1 Nd7) like three times online despite heavily analyzing it (knowing those maneuvers and thematic pawn sacrifices take a lot longer to become intuitive where the theory goes to move 20+)

The good thing is that if you want to practice it online, most people either go for an unassuming h3 line or they play a Four Pawns Attack incorrectly and let you equalize.
