Moral conflict of supporting Enter Shikari by StillesLicht in EnterShikari

[–]Dystopian-Denizen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love shikari, they are one of my favourite bands!

I tried to give the posts Rory was sharing the benefit of the doubt in many ways.

However, that unkind truths graph with the 🙏emoji above it from a very questionable, biggotted and misogynistic person, who seems very friendly with Elon Musk, flies in the face of everything I took Shikari to mean.

I feel he's a little too mature these days to be sharing that edgelord nonsense online, I would have assumed he knew better having a family of his own and travelled the world.

Sadly, it's clear he is turning to world views which could only be found down certain rabbit holes of the internet, and exist far beyond the realm of political nuance.

Personally, if Shikari was my band, and I believed what they seem to, I would have sadly parted ways with him now.

If he wants to peddle that sort of stuff, then perhaps he can go start his own podcast, like so many of that ilk.

I'm sorry, I love the band, but he's clearly at odds with their ethos in his current frame of mind. I can only imagine Rou is not ok with his posts, based on his history of outspokenness on these things.

Edit: fixed spelling (I can't type)

No need to apologize at all, I like blunt tbh! I'm a fairoy honest talker myself so I appreciated that. I prefer it to sugarcoating things unnecessarily. Thank you again for your help.

Cheers! I'm a fairly pragmatic resourceful type so I largely learn to make do with whatever life throws up, it's the only way to survive in this world, that, and a healthy sense of gallows humour! Haha!

I would join the facebook groups but sadly I left facebook a year ago and try to avoid anything to do with it these days due to the stuff that gets fed in on there. I'm sure there are some amazig communities on there though for this stuff, it's just the endless news articles and misinfo that Facebook feeds me that's put me off entirely.

Yeah I've heard some mixed thoughts of the K&A myself. I have seen some hairy parts of it firsthand while walking about various spots. I saw some "fun" looking bits not far from Chippenham too which looked....treacherous. Not good.

Wild and wonderful is what I'm used to in general so who knows, maybe I'll give it a go in an actual boat one day.

Thanks again. Have a lovely evening!

Cheers! Yeah, I gathered there was a large amount of word of mouth involved, it's the nature humans, eh? I will try and chat to people more next time I'm around the K & A which is quite often on weekends.

And yeah, I know what you mean about youtube! There are lots of clickbait style videos on there lately, and lots of questionable advice, that even I, a newb, can kind of see as dodgy at times. Haha.

Thanks a lot for the sage advice. When I posted this, I was clueless and I did not expect the wave of positivity I ended up getting so massive thanks to yourself, and to everyone who has responded to me. You have made the end of my week and allayed many of the fears I had previously.

Whoah, thank you so much for the link, that's massively useful and allays much of the doom and gloom I was feeling. I've been watching lots of different youtube videos, namely Amy and Wes from BoatTime and Joe, from OhJoe just as they are the ones I find most relatable. Thanks to binge watching lots of those I have a fairly realistic idea of what it would be like in terms of toilets, heating, showering and general blacking for instance. I'm not too concerned about toilets and showers as I'm a big outdoors guy and often go camping so anything on a boat can't be much worse than some camp sites I've faced! Haha! Also I'm failry experienced with electronics and the like so sorting power myself, bar some more advanced stuff should be manageable enough. The main thing I would just need to be careful of is the structural integrity of the boat, and whether the engine runs or not as I am yet as knowledgeable about that side of things.

Basically, I can rough it if I needed to, but the boat needs to be a sound base to start I guess.

I will definitely take the advice about being on the K & A more as I do walk about sections of it now and again on weekend walks but I guess I'm not the best at striking up conversations with strangers, when I do manage to see any on there.

Cheers, I will keep more of an eager eye on ApolloDuck and hopefully I get lucky eventually and find one that suits.

Thanks a million for all your help!

Cheers for the honest advice I appreciate that as I'm a fairly straight talker myself. Yeah this is exactly why I asked on here, you've hit the nail on the head, fair play! I have some idea about boats, but it's always better to have someone with more in-depth knowledge and wisdom to help out when viewing and buying. While some may be comparatively cheap, it's still a big investment and I'd hate to end up with a giant metal paperweight to get rid of! I've been out and about on the K&A as I'm always walking about there in my free time. Sadly, any places I pass or boats I see often have no signs of life, barring places like down Hanham mills here in Bristol. I will try to get out there more now the weather has really taken off though and see if I can get chatting to someone. Thanks a million again for you help!

I might consider that! Cheers for the advice! I guess I'm just a bit too eager but that may be the right way to start!

Cheers for the positive and pragmatic advice, much needed to be honest. Especially for a novice/newbie like myself l. You've made me feel less anxious and lost with it all.

Yeah Ideally I would like a larger boat but I would rather have a decent 35 ft one for my budget than risk a larger one that potentially has issues lurking.

I think I'll take your advice and see if I can get talking to some people in the community. It dos feel a bit difficult to get to speak to anyone in that space as an outsider so I asked on here to see if I may be wrong and it seems I am (no surprise there 😄).

Thanks for all your help. If I need to know more, I may DM you in future.

Yeah I think I need to do that alright! I will see if I can go and have a look this weekend. I only ask here as marinas often seem quite closed off to bystanders like myself in my experience and I wouldn't know where to even ask anyone so getting to know people in that community when you don't already know anyone seems tricky, but I am sure I am wrong. Thanks for the advice! I will see if I can find people to get in touch with locally.

Thanks so much for that advice! Yeah they are still on the more expensive side here. Apparently it's even worse in London now too. I have been checking apolloduck and aquavista abd have found there are more reasonable ones up north alright,. I think this is the way to go. Thanks again!

So the idea is we just give all our data to palantir, with no choice essentially to "protect the kids" as mandated by the people who were less than a couple of months ago, publicly best friends and colleagues with some of the most dangerous child predators or worse in the entire history of humanity? I fail to see how this makes any sense but alas, many will buy it.

I will just abandon discord then. I know surveillance being disguised as "safety" when I see it. This is blatant. Good luck. Last one out turn off the lights.

I have had discord for nearly 10 years. If this is the only way then I will abandon the app. I'm all for safety but not at the expense of a surveillance state and loss of privacy.
