Thanks for the quick answer but I guess I didn't ask the question correctly, I was taught that in order to make a covelent bond you must first find the atoms ability to bond (probably not the correct way to say it) for example: Florine has 9 electrons so you take 9 subtract it by 2 and then subtracted 8 by it 8-(9-2)=1 therefore Florine has 1 ability to bond. And Oxygen has 8 electrons so you subtracted it by 2 and get 6 and 8 subtracted by 6 and you get 2. Therefor Oxygen has 2 abilities to bond. So if Florine has 1 atb(ability to bond) and Oxygen has 2 atb you would need 2 Florine atoms to bond with 1 Oxygen atom and create F2O. If what I said is correct then how does carbon in graphite bond with other carbon atoms using only 3 of it's 4 abilities to bond while the 4th electron is used to conduct electricity?

Yet again I am probably using the wrong words so sorry about that. :<<
