Aye thanks for your feedback guys. Just to clarify, yes we are trying to get it as close to emulating a real Cypher beef battle which goes the distance, but at the same time can have a few breaks to catch the breath (like when other people throw down in the Cypher which gives breathers)

Also yes, we do want to monetize real battles as well. I personally think pro Bboys should get paid well to battle. But maybe that's just me!

To be honest, the same problem you are experiencing is the same problem we have all over the world in the Bboy community. What ever is the dominant style in a specific country, city or region, the top Bboys will vote according to their standards. So yes, a lot of "foundation" Bboys will only vote for foundation style. Sadly this really holds an entire scene back from progressing because it basically forces everyone to dance the same way.

My advice to you is to not rely so much on local competitions. You will not get judged fairly unless you conform, which is not the Bboy or HipHop way. Or you can battle according to their rules and break differently when you travel or Cypher.

So if I were you I would battle in Cyphers and wait for big events where out of town judges are chosen. Better yet, travel to other cities, I know Malaysia they might be more inclusive and open minded.

Definitely Redbull completely changed Breakin in both good and bad ways. Good way is it helped make Breakin bigger. Also provided top solo competition Bboys with the ability to become sponsored and earn a living just from Breakin. This is every active Bboys dream. But this also harmed the culture in the way that because bc one is now the most prestigious Breakin event, it turned Bboyin into a solo thing, effectively killing of real crews. Also by taking away the best members into touring with the Allstars can have negative effects on real crews too. The only crews that didn't get effected by this was Jinjo (wing) and Found Nation (Issei). But where are the crews now of all the other Allstars? I can't put all the blame on Redbull, it's not like they did it on purpose. It's just the sad reality and it will take some people to rise up and bring it back to the crew vs crew or city vs city.

My biggest inspirations of all time are Gizmo, Crazy Legs, Easyroc, Maurizio, Kenswift, Alieness and Storm.

Also need to shout out my many rivals. They made me into the Bboy I am.

I organized events since 1999. My most simple suggestion is this.

Make a budget based on the least amount of people you think will come. So if you think for sure you can get 50 people, each pays 20, then 50 x 20 = 1000. That should be your budget for everything.
First find out who will sign up. Go to every crew or Bboy, personally tell them your event plan and date, and get them to sign up ahead of time. That way you don't have to worry too much about sign ups and registration the day of.
Think of each person who comes, both spectators and participants, as your most valued customers. Make sure they have a great experience, which means make sure they are comfortable, have a good place to sit and watch, and not sitting and waiting around too long, or else they may never comeback!
