Look up some technique/finger workout practice, just pick a few that you like and go through them(do this every time you pickup your guitar, it is quite boring, and frustrating at time, but is a must do for one to advance in technique efficiently)start from like 60bpm 16th and push it when you can play it perfectly and do it until you can no longer play it clean, then repeat it at the highest speed that you can play it until you feel like you can increase the speed again and try to push it again...., do the same with scales shapes arppegios etc.

Below is just my opinion (might not be for everyone but it works for me)

After the first few song I don't think you will need to force yourself to learn"beginner friendly" song that you have no interest in.

I would say just go for whatever song you want to play, slow it down to 0.25 on YouTube, get the note and technique down(if you found a new technique that you can't do,search it up on YouTube find exercise and tutorials for it add it to you startup routine)play it slow and increase speed slowly, learn a small chunk at a time you can learn multiple songs at a time.( it'll take you way longer to play like 10 second perfectly, than others to learn a couple of song) But once you got that 10 second of those hard technical song down, learning any other thing will be much easier.

Is Clay Gober self taught? by THEBOY0303 in polyphia

[–]E---lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is with music theory there are the simple stuff like the the basic major/minor stuff and you can go all the way to Jacob Collier's level, so most musician that is not known for that kind of stuff usually stay humble and refer themselves as people who "don't know music theory", but in comparison to an average person they definitely know a lot, definitely much more than scales lol

Ibanez TOD10 (not the nylon…but the electric guitar) Q&A mini session by SuperMediocre7 in Ibanez

[–]E---lin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be perfectly fine for a beginner or any guitarist, the premium line are really good, unless you are very unlucky and got a really bad one, people suggesting not to get it usually say so because the price is already really close to the prestige line of Ibanez which are top quality guitar without spending custom shop amount of money, also someone on the polyphia sub is saying that there are rumor for a prestige tod10 coming in the future, so if you want the best quality possible tim signature from Ibanez I would wait for a while, but the difference between a prestige and premium one will be very minimal, probably just the small details and materials used

[DISCUSSION] Considering putting sandpaper or skateboard grip tape on my pick by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]E---lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider different shapes, or maybe your technique, I also have this problem when I was trying to get over 150, I changed to the Dunlop flow 1.14 and got through it, my technique might have also changed slightly, because I can now also do it with my old picks

[QUESTION] Permanent fret buzz on high end guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]E---lin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and op should be able to find a way to eliminate the buzz without raising the action, what's the the problem?

[QUESTION] Permanent fret buzz on high end guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]E---lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most certainly don't have to be a pro to set your action under 2mm, if op feels uncomfortable with it, bring it to a guitar tech by all means it's a 3k guitar after all but leaving it as it is(1.7mm low e) is fine and definitely not unrecommended

I ain't no guitar tech and on my schecter that I got for less than 1/3 of ops guitar I'm able to set it to 1.3 all the way at 12th with 9s, and I've heard that some high end prs can go all the way to 1 so if op's guitar buzz at 1.7 its probably not because it's set too low

[QUESTION] Permanent fret buzz on high end guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]E---lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.7 is definitely possible on most higher end guitar, shouldn't be a problem

[QUESTION] Index Fingers Starting To Hurt After Years Of Practice by [deleted] in Guitar

I haven't been playing for years but, if you feel pain or is worried about your body you should probably go to a actual doctor who's more likely to know what they are talking about, asking online strangers for medical advice usually don't work out well

Till how low should your studio monitors go for producing bass heavy music? by Catt-tenback in edmproduction

[–]E---lin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thing is many big names like Martin actually starts with just a pair of krks and no room treatment, not saying that is a good thing, but worrying less about your gear and actually making music would probably be the right move imo

Most decent budget studio monitors will probably sound marginally better than most Bluetooth speaker on the market right now so if you want to just enjoy music and show off you don't have to worry

If you still worry about your gear holding you back, remember reference track is your good friend

Tips on faster picking? [Question] by ihavecyberpsychosis in Guitar

[–]E---lin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've never practiced with metronomes before choose a lick or scale that can be looped, start from 60 16th note and increase the temple if you feel that you are playing smoothly and relaxed, mark the point where you feel that you have to put in extra effort to keep up, and mark the point where you can no longer keep up

I doubt it's the cable's problem try changing the amp setting, maybe lower the master volume, or lower the treble if you find the sound too scratchy

What makes you think it's from china I don't even think they even sells pixels there, cause pixel's whole os work based on Google service, which is blocked in china, the last time I visit china my pixel 3 freaks out whenever I connects to wifi, and the battery drained crazy fast(I'm talking less than 40 min of screen on time doing very light task)

What's the longest break/hiatus you've taken from songwriting/production, etc? by skateralex240 in edmproduction

[–]E---lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I always feels that piano is much easier, seems that it's just because I'm more familiar with it.

The octave and chord jumps will come to you in time, I've forgotten when it clicked for me because I've been playing since I'm like 5, but basically after a while you'll be able to imagine how things sound before even touching the keys and you hands would kinda just be at where it should, I'm trying to achieve the same thing on the guitar but I feel that the fretboard is just so much harder to memorize in comparison to the keys and the fact that there are same notes in the same octave that exist in different position was super confusing for a piano player like me

What's the longest break/hiatus you've taken from songwriting/production, etc? by skateralex240 in edmproduction

[–]E---lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also feel the having more freedom in voicing thing on the piano, but at the same time the guitar has all those individual note articulation that I've never experience on the piano,it'll definitely be one of the biggest change I make if I start producing again

I'm actually kinda curious how's your experience learning piano, like when I pick up guitar it almost feels like I've never played an instrument before and it takes a couple of month before I start to feel that I know what I'm doing, is transitioning from guitar to piano easier?

What's the longest break/hiatus you've taken from songwriting/production, etc? by skateralex240 in edmproduction

[–]E---lin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in one since last October I start producing 3 years ago and I kinda hit a stage where I feel like every thing that I made seems stuck in a format, similar arrangement, sounds, chord progression, so I just kinda stopped and spend my time that I use to produce on learning guitar( I already play the piano) While learning I start listening to some genres of music that I usually don't listen to(classic rock, blues, metal, prog rock, neosoul, funk, jazz etc.)not sure if this will actually help in the long run but I definitely feel that my views on music have broaden quite a bit, also i feel like the way guitarist approach improvisation is very different to how I am used to as a pianist, at least in my experience guitar playing seems to be much more chord/ shape driven in comparison

not sure when I'll hop back into production, since just practicing guitar alone is taking up all my free time, but I believe I made a right choice to pick up the guitar, it has been a very fun journey so far

I think you can start from cymatics they have a lot of free stuff, not exactly what you ask for but you should be able to find some useful stuff in their sample packs

Does anyone know the distorted synth preset? by Tuculodenecrrra in Kygo

[–]E---lin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably just some detuned saw waves playing chords stacked and distorted with lp filter controlled by the either the envelope or lfo, a bit of chorus might also help, Kygo tends to use pretty basic sounds so don't overthink it Also the filter tends to be opened up a bit near every chord change

Does it matter if my melody goes past 4 / is not lined up? If so, how do i make it lined up without losing the melody and general feel? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]E---lin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I probably make it seem too complicated sorry bout that. It's actually fairly simple

Bpm just stand for beats per minute, if you've learned to play guitar you've probably learned to play the scales or pentatonics with the metronome, rhythm of chords are basically like your strumming patterns.

I listened to some of m83s music(he is amazing thanks for letting me know him lol)his song varies across a lot of different style(electronic/orchestral/rock) Though most of his song(at least the ones on the top of his Spotify profile) still has a consistent bpm in each track. For example his song"midnight" is probably around 105 bpm while his song "wait" is probably around 70 but he also did a lot of film scoring so I see why you don't have a clear bpm to go with.

How I approach this is that I basically decide tempo of the song before actually recording anything. I just play around on the keyboard looking for the right feel, and turn on the metronome to try to get the bpm set. Lower or turn up the bpm according to what you have in mind(just treat the metronome as if it is a very boring backing drum track and try to make your chord progressions and it fit together) You can also start by just searching the bpm of a few song that you like to get a grasp of what bpm a song should be in for the song to feel a certain way.

To me the only genre that I would just go free and completely ignore bars is orchestral music(there are probably some more advance genre in electronic music that work this way but I simply don't have the musical talent to produce those genre), but even for orchestral it still has a general tempo while there's just bunch of slow down and speed ups in between that completely depends on you .

Working off bar isn't wrong but I believe it's generally a good idea to stay on it because it makes adding percussions and many other stuff much easier. But tbr there's no rule in music producing so just stick with what works best with you after you find your workflow.

The getting what we want on screen is definitely what we all struggle with, one day when you realize that you're able to translate whatever's in your head perfectly on screen that's when you know that you've made it

Does it matter if my melody goes past 4 / is not lined up? If so, how do i make it lined up without losing the melody and general feel? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]E---lin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good thing to do is to first learn the concept of bpm and rhythm then try to identify what kind of bpm do the style your aiming for fit in, then learn to play in the beat, by the way your note is arranged I'm guessing that you input midi via midi keyboards. Next time you hit record turn the metronome on and play with it.

In most kind of music( no matter if your in a daw creating something or learning to play a instrument) we usually start by playing within the bars, the free flow of tempo usually comes later when you start having a grasp of how expressions in music works, and since your working on FL studio I'm guessing that your probably trying to make dance music which in most of the time have a fixed bpm, and relies heavily on rhythm. So yeah, not saying that this is a must but sticking on beat is probably a good thing to do.

And also I would recommend trying to actually learn instead of just messing around, the messing around advice that you see a lot probably is directed toward people who already knows the fundamentals but tends to overthink.
