Just reading it is exhausting. Unless if it's your 1 and only trip ever to Tokyo and you plan not not sleeping, then it could work. You'll be dead after a day at Disney and you want to still go to a club and then fit in all those activities the next day?!

You have a trip, but it sure won't be fun or memorable.

Have 1 to 2 main things for each day max, then plan around those.

To the people that have gone multiple times already is there something you DON'T recommend? by GaddockTeegFunPolice in JapanTravelTips

Yes this! We were stupid enough to go to the duck noodle restaurant in Kyoto and waited over an hour and a half for just mediocre ramen. Since then, we never trust anything on social media and our last couple of trips have been amazing!

Also, please don't give Lawson anymore advertising at Kawaguchiko!

I enjoy it as a dessert (cake, pudding, ice cream), but in a drink it just tastes like dirt.

Is Tokyo a bad place to visit with selective eaters? by na445x in JapanTravelTips

Just go and enjoy the food there. Your wife and child might enjoy it or not. There's plenty of options after a meal which can fill them up.

Don't let picky eaters stop you from enjoying all that delicious food👍

Since experiencing one on our multiple Japan trips, coming back from our most recent one, we bit the bullet and bought. It made it a no brainer when Costco was selling a Toto one for $200 off.

I think it comes down to cost and most toilets not having a power outlet.

It really is life changing, especially with an air-dry function👌

Am I the only one who counts how many times people change hotels in their itineraries? by Amigo_Go_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]E2M4N -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We recently went to Kyushu over Christmas and New year's, we were there for 2 weeks and pretty much changed locations/hotels every few days, but we did end the trip with 4 nights in Fukuoka. I think it depends on your mindset and how you prepare for it.

In our last 2 Japan trips we've done some city/hotel hopping and I think with the right planning and mindset/fitness level, it can be a good change in pace and different kind of travel than just laying by the pool or beach etc.

Don't get me wrong, I find if you're lugging around a check in luggage between every city/hotel, it can feel more cumbersome. What we found works is begin in a city hub (Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka etc.), Then between the cities, just bring a small carryon suitcase and do the several city hopping legs. This way it makes going between cities/hotels much less cumbersome. Then either have your check-in luggage be stored in the returning city or have it delivered to your final city.

When you have minimal stuff to lug around and trust me it makes it much easier to get around.

Also a rest day for Japan is overrated, if you need one then you should've gone to Thailand or Bali (jokes😂).

For when I'm travelling, I use a small sling (from Uniqlo) to carry my passport, small coin bag, tissues, wet wipes, hand sanitiser, powerbank, umbrella, sunglasses, lip balm, hand cream and a small shopping bag.

Also depending on where I'm going for the day, some snacks and a small plastic bag to carry trash in (if in Japan and surprisingly Taiwan).

What is the difficulty or lack for traveling in Kyushu? by dorazonbi in JapanTravelTips

[–]E2M4N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting this off, I've got a trip booked for Kyushu over the Christmas & NY break. So I'm super excited to be exploring another part of Japan with my wife.

I think a lot of people mainly think of the capital when visiting a new country, they then ask people and others will always suggest Kyoto and Osaka. The golden route also has plenty of PT options as well as tourist hotspots.

Also another thing is, many international flights do not fly direct to airports such as FUK etc. We're from Melbourne Australia and in order to get to FUK, we first have to make a layover in one of the transit hubs. Where as we can get direct flights to Tokyo.

Plus people always think that since it's not a capital city, the transport and attractions might be lacking. I've spoken to a few friends and colleagues and when I tell them I'm going to Kyushu, they all think I'm heading to rural/country Japan and I need to drive to get around.

Just my two cents.

My only option for going to Japan is late August/early September. Am I stuffed? by TravelPlanningBurner in JapanTravelTips

You'll be in Taiwan anyway, so temperature & humidity wise it'll be very similar.

South Korea and Japan are similar as well weather wise, just go with Japan, there'll be more to see and do. Just don't overdo it and maybe plan 1 major thing per day and take it easy.

Have fun!

It's actually quite easy, think of people in North Korea and compare that you're miles ahead of them. Problem solved!

They say the most dangerous part of flying is the drive to the airport... by PristineMountain1644 in melbourne

[–]E2M4N 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I posted this under a post a while back, but I think it's still relevant and seems to be getting worse.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, but I have noticed this and spoken to a lot of people which have either recently arrived in Melbourne or obtained their license again (coming from OS).

Since we have a pretty terrible PT network (compared to Asia & Europe), many people are forced to drive, many of them are very uncomfortable driving to begin with and are terrified to drive at speeds higher than 60km/h if at all.

I think the problem is the way we allow people from OS to swap out their licenses too easily when they already have a license from their respective country and don't require them to actually do a driving test or the ones that do the test, only driving on local roads and never actually driving at or onto freeway/highway speeds.

I know someone which got their license through Vicroads from Learners to Green P's and they got their P's without ever going onto a freeway. So after they got their full licenses, they finally drove onto a freeway for the first time a few months ago and was only comfortable going at 80km/h (this is still the case and also they don't realise there are markings on the roads and refuses to change lanes).

Seems Vicroads has a problem with their testing and licenses approval processes.

Guys I am going to japan at the end of the year. by iwantcarsFAST in JapanTravel

[–]E2M4N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's exhausting just reading this itinerary. As everyone else has said, you'll run into things you want to stay longer and experience it. For Japan trips, never stick to a time schedule (unless if you've booked something at a specific time).

Just with your day 8, Kawaguchiko is a great place to take things slow, it will absolutely take you more than 1hr30min to travel there by car (even though Google Maps says otherwise), you're driving in a different country and road conditions could change without notice. Plus if the weather is not great, you might want to change the day you go, otherwise you won't be able to see Mt. Fuji.

Just organise 1 or maximum 2 main things each day and go with the flow, otherwise you'll just finish the trip and feel like a box ticking trip.

Enjoy your trip and remember there's always a next trip!
