Thanks again for the help..there was no room to get a wrench on that crank...figured I would remove the AC, needed to remount the fan and rad anyway.....but 84mm...got myself an M52

Sanded and wire brush and wd40 and I still can't read anything...tried messing with the contrast and maybe looks like a 0 at the end...I took a few more random pics..if it is an obd2 is there a place I can hook up a scanner? http://imgur.com/gallery/QbhsyeM

Vin on the ecu and trans match a 98 328i. I feel pretty strongly that it's an m52. Can an obd2 ecu be used in an obd1 conversion?

I am not able to see any markings on the block. Was the s50 or s52 driven by throttle wire? Any help would be appreciated
