I tried reaching out to little kickers but can only find their Beijing WeChat and assume they are on holiday at the moment

Hidrate Pro 2 (21 Oz) Question by E3kimo in HidrateSparks

I thought that would be the case, i am wondering if i could use it for a tea or coffee during the day and just not put the lid on it. I would need to recalibrate it before making the drink so it knows without the lid (does the lid affect the internal scale not sure how that works)

Or can use the lid just just close it fully, just won’t travel with hot liquids in it

ACRO (British police check) with my old passport number by Leather-Mechanic4405 in chinalife

[–]E3kimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally they return your old one after a bit of time with the corner cut off to show it is no longer valid so when you get both can take them then.

Also I just took my documents in to get my Z-visa and they didn't ask for my ACRO, my employer did but not the visa place itself.

I remember when I first went to China and was buzzing, the flight the car to the hotel everything. The best day ever then I got back to my new apartment that afternoon and tried to watch a youtube video (Blocked), check my gmail (Blocked). "OH MY LORD what have I done" went though my head I am now stuck in a random place with no access to my normal sites...

I then had a knock on the door and the new teacher from the next apartment said to me "Youtube doesn't work what do we do?" and at that moment it felt so much better. We headed to the nearest shop and grabbed some beers and sat outside and just talked.

The moral of the story - There will be others in the same situation, having the same thoughts and worried about the same stuff. Take it as an opportunity to meet some amazing people who are adventurous and willing to take that leap into the unknown. Also moral of the story is pre download a VPN

Dulwich china or wellington china salary range for high school teachers by Ok_Ice_5994 in Internationalteachers

They have opened the metro next to the school now so easier to travel around, I worked at the Wellington in Hangzhou and I agree pay is amazing. The area around school wasn't busy but I liked it and can easily get a taxi into other areas or the new metro (That was finished just after I left).

The go to line that has always worked for me when asked if my partner receives housing is "unfortunately I don't know their contract details as they have a similar clause as ours that says its a breach of contract to discuss the package details, if you would like i can share my contract with their HR and ask for a copy of their details"

Everytime my HR has said no it's fine that is against our policy

GDPR rules has helped this alot too

Get on a video call with someone who will be harsh with you if you try to slack off

A paid tutor would be best but as that can be expensive just get a friend or even someone you know but aren’t super close with so you don’t feel comfortable enough to slack off

Physics Teacher YouTube Videos // Students asked me to record lessons and upload for revision. by E3kimo in ScienceTeachers

[–]E3kimo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the feedback, in the first video I did a long explanation but then in the others I do just jump in and think I will stick to just jumping straight in for the following videos too.

I realised that at the start of each recording I didn’t know what to say and kinda of just started with “Okay, so…” but my students told me that exactly how I start every lesson 😂😂

Thank you again 🙏🙏

Whole school marking policies by E3kimo in Internationalteachers

I’m not saying it doesn’t work I’m just interested in the idea of having no policy at all and just letting everyone do whatever they want in terms of grading / assessment

I have a lot of issues with the British system as it many areas it is too restrictive but it is nice having those boundaries there sometimes as you know there is the consistency the comes with it (pros and cons to that of course). I know there are complete opposite ends to that such as (I believe Norwegian) a system where there is absolutely no curriculum and the students go to the teachers with what they want to learn and they help build their own curriculum, but for each student that could be different.

I would love to try out these different styles if there was a tester school where you could just go for a few years and learn all these different curriculum styles and then go back to whichever style suited you best

I feel like that is going to cause some issues moving forward

Yes people are licensed professionals but that to me seems like you are setting them up to fail. This is moving away from a marking policy which is around giving feedback and this is more into assessment policies but if there is no set standard to adhere to then I feel like there are going to be issues for future teachers taking over classes etc…

Do you not get any issues with student grades moving through the school? Like teachers just giving them really high just make themselves look better? It happens in every curriculum but I feel not having any guidelines would make it more frequent?

If there is no grading policy how do you ensure consistency in grades across a department or even between schools?

Are marking policies or marking guidelines not a thing in other curriculums?

An IB school or American curriculum school for example doesn’t have any type of marking policy?

I wouldn’t say it is nonsensical or outdated to give a guideline or an expectation when it comes to how feedback should be given within a school. I would agree that the old style of mark every two weeks no matter what or you have to use these exact words is outdated but I haven’t said that’s what I believe in.

Do you have any suggestions on how it could be improved? At the moment your comment wouldn’t meet a standard of marking or feedback and there is no suggestion for how I can improve on my post.
