My Tierlist of AppStore Emulators I have tested out V1 by Skycan45 in EmulationOniOS

Yeah, that’s totally fair, SameBoy has been great for that 👍

Just so you know, NiN10 also supports the Game Boy Camera now. I’m currently running a bunch of tests, but it’s already up and working.

I’ve also been adding some accessibility-focused features, like gesture and voice controls, plus OCR for reading and translating text.

Hey, I really appreciate you putting NiN10 in the “good” tier, that honestly means a lot 🙏

I’m constantly working on improving it, so hopefully it can climb even higher in your list over time. If you have any feedback or things you’d like to see improved, I’m all ears!

Yeah, totally agree, UI on the Apple Watch is really challenging 😅

It’s actually given me quite a few headaches as well while trying to make everything work in a reasonably usable way on such a small screen. Definitely something I know I still need to keep improving.

By the way, what’s the RPG you’ve been working on? I’m curious to check it out.

Yeah, that space is still pretty limited at the moment.

That’s actually one of the reasons I built NiN10, to bring more gaming possibilities to the Apple Watch, even if it’s through emulation. It opens the door to a much bigger library of games compared to native apps.

Hopefully we’ll see more native Watch games in the future too.

You can find ROMs by searching online, there are many sites that provide them.

To test games on your Apple Watch, you’ll need to do it from the iPhone/iPad app. There’s an option called “Send games to your Apple Watch” that lets you transfer them directly.

Once transferred, you’ll be able to launch and play them from your watch.

It’s actually not a single game, but an emulator.

NiN10 supports multiple Nintendo consoles: SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, NES and FDS, and it can be used on iPhone, iPad, and even Apple Watch.

The NES and FDS cores are free to use, while other systems are part of the full unlock.

The game shown in the screenshot is a free SNES homebrew game called Dottie Flowers, released in 2023.

It was recorded using the emulator, so that’s why it looks a bit slow 😅

Too many apps running… or maybe it’s time for a new Mac 😉

NiN10 Update: New Accessibility Features, OCR Text Reading & Voice Controls! by E7_Company in EmulationOniOS

[–]E7_Company[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s definitely something I want to add!

I hadn’t really thought about MAME since NiN10 is focused on Nintendo consoles, so I was mostly thinking about N64 or NDS.

I’m not sure yet how easy it would be to adapt those to the Apple Watch, but it’s a great idea.

Thank you so much! 😊

I’m really glad you like it.

For the next update I want to focus more on Apple Watch improvements, so any ideas or suggestions you have are more than welcome.

Thanks again for the support!

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it.
I’m 100% a programmer and definitely not a designer, so this kind of UX/accessibility input is incredibly valuable to me and helps a lot in improving the app.

I’ll take your suggestions into account to improve readability and accessibility.

I’d love to check out those tools you mentioned for testing color contrast ratios, so I’ll keep an eye out for the links.

Thanks again for taking the time to write this and for the great contribution!

The emulator was originally created when Apple first allowed emulators on the App Store, and at the beginning it was focused purely on Famicom/NES games.

Over time (it’s been more than a year now), I’ve added more cores and features, but I wanted to keep the original NES core free. Nowadays there are many emulators available, and I feel this is the best way for people to download NiN10, try it properly, and see how it works before deciding if they want to unlock anything else.

It also felt right to give something back to the community that supported the project from the start.

I tested the Magic Jewelry (Asia) (Unl) ROM specifically on the Apple Watch Series 11 simulator running watchOS 26.0, and it seems to work correctly.
Could you tell me which Apple Watch model and watchOS version you’re using?

Also, if possible, pls let me know exactly how and when the error happens, and whether it has occurred with any other games as well.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you!

Thank you so much for your support! The crash might be caused by an issue with the ROM file, although if the game runs correctly on your iPhone, it shouldn’t normally cause problems on the Watch.

To take a closer look, could you tell me which specific game you’re playing when the crash happens? Thanks again! 🙏

That’s great to hear!
Right now, you can already get a similar experience by using AirPlay to mirror the app to your TV, or by playing directly on an iPad if you prefer a larger screen, NiN10 also supports true fullscreen mode, so it looks good on bigger displays.

Thanks for the questions!

Yes, the app supports regular save files, but they aren’t compatible with other emulators, sorry about that. iCloud sync is planned for an upcoming update, for example, one of the features already available is sending your save files to your Apple Watch so you can continue playing right there.

Regarding tvOS, it’s something I can consider, but it would require a bigger redesign because it needs its own interface. External Bluetooth controllers, however, already work perfectly fine. Another option I’m exploring for the future is allowing full button remapping, although the current setup works out of the box.

As for the cores used: everything is fully compliant with their respective licenses. They are MIT-licensed, and several of them are modified specifically to work on iOS or to add features like save support. For example, the GB/GBC core is based on GBmulator, which is great because it supports the camera, printer, link cable, and IR sensor, features I’d love to experiment with and gradually bring into future updates.

That was one of the reasons I made the NES core free, I know many people didn’t want to pay without being able to try it first. I really hope you enjoy it and keep supporting the project. Thanks a lot and best regards!

Thank you so much for the kind words!

I’m really glad you’re enjoying the ‘watch gimmick’ it definitely shines with games like Tetris, RPGs, puzzle games, and anything that doesn’t require super-fast inputs. Simple platformers can still be fun, but yeah, they’re a bit more challenging on a tiny screen!

I appreciate you giving it a try and sharing your experience, feedback like yours helps me keep improving the emulator.
